From magnifying mirrors to purple carpets, Prince is no stranger to making diva demands.

His latest request, however, is literally his biggest to date. He wants a whole house.

The 49-year-old American star whose hits include Purple Rain and Cream is in negotiations to have a luxury five-bedroom home built for him within the grounds of London's O2 Arena, formerly the Millennium Dome.

It is understood that the site's owner, AEG, will foot the bill.

The diminutive singer, whose 21-date Earth Tour started last night, intends to use the home as a base for all future London visits.

"Prince's people approached us with the idea a few months ago," said a property source.

"He has had some pretty wild nights out in London and loves all that the capital has to offer, so it makes sense for him to have a more permanent base here.

"And with the Docklands increasingly becoming a trendy area to live, he obviously wants to capitalise on this.

"Plus, with more and more gigs and events being held at the O2, he will always be just a stone's throw from the action.

"Yes, it is a bit extravagant, but then again this is Prince we're talking about."

The prefabricated house is to be built on an unoccupied site adjacent to the arena, and will be the only one in the area.

Until it is built, Prince and his entourage are making do with a five- star hotel in the capital's Docklands.

The singer is in a £2,100-a-night Presidential suite, complete with fully- stocked bar, secret lift entrance and a king-size, walnut leather-finish bed.

He is keen to have a minimalist feel to the suite, so hotel staff have been told to "de-clutter" it by removing several items of designer furniture.

During his London stay, he has reportedly demanded an oxygen bar - which enables participants to inhale a higher than normal concentration of oxygen though nasal tubes - for his entourage.

When Prince performed at the Brits awards ceremony earlier this year, it was claimed that he asked everyone to avoid eye contact with him, and demanded a special mirror to magnify his reflection.

Last night, a spokesman for AEG refused to comment. A spokeman for the star denied that her client was buying a house.
