Prince...what about mercy?

Is this what Jesus would do?

If he had a disagreement with someone, he would try and take all of their money?

He would try and ruin them?

I don't think so.

Practice what you preach borther.

Let the man be...

He's helped people respect and appreciate your music. Hasn't become rich off of you.

You're paid. Regardless of how you felt like a slave, you ain't missed no meals brother. Nobody's going to have to do a Prince benefit show anytime soon.

Let the man be...or stop the preaching. One cannot live on both sides of the fence.

No offense to M etc. but everybody and their mama knows not to be publicly posting unofficial Prince releases. We know about the principals of this scenario etc...but as gaurded and as precious as P's music is to him, ...well you know the rest.

When has Prince preached that it is alright to steal?

When has Prince preached it is alright to disrespect other peoples property?

This is the whole skateboard generation mentality. Take what you want - do what you want - ignore other people.

It's not about Prince saying it was alright to steal.

Prince is referencing religous concepts now. People are now captive audiences to hearing this doctorine. People are being humiliated, fans are being humiliated, if they've been raised on beliefs contrary to Prince's new found ideals.

and all that's fine..

my statement is...Does the concept of Mercy enter the picture.

If you're representing a merciful God, and you show vindictiveness in your self-defense...are you not polluting your message?

You want mercy from Prince - how about some remorse from freemyheart.com?
He is still claiming he did nothing wrong with the downloads.
Its a two-way street.

Yeah, Jesus would. When he went to the temple and saw people selling in the temple, and the "moneychangers," he overturned their tables and kicked them out. Point being, when you use a man's property against that man's will, he has the right to be angry.

That having been said, anybody want to download a digital copy of the Bible from me on Kazaa? wink

I take your points guys ... but if it was me I'd be flattered that people were still interested enough in my work to bootleg it smile I'd always clamp down on anyone trying to get rich or make money by selling unauthorised recordings etc... that's just common sense. But I do think it's worth giving the fans a break ... why stop them sharing files with each other? So what if they were unauthorised recordings - if no one is making money out of it why get pissed over it?

Prince can argue the letter of the law and be perfectly within his rights. But there is such a thing as shitting in your own back yard, and I see suing fansites and suchlike as being a fruitless exercise undertaken by only the most foolish of capitalists or the ardent of control-freaks. Either way, there has gotta be something better for Prince to do with his time smile

Don't get me wrong, I'd never criticise Prince's shutting down commercial bootlegging operations, or trying to protect his livelihood. It's just the fan-bashing that I don't approve of biggrin

You're equating overturning tables and kicking someone out of a temple with suing a man of meager means for millions of dollars?

nice try

try again.

You're saying that someone not showing remorse is worth them getting sued for millions of dollars that they don't have...

I don't buy that.

Plus...

Every last one of you on this site has some Unofficial prince material...all of you.

Maybe you didn't post them to be downloaded, but you all have them...

yet you throw stones...

Judge not yet thee be judged...

question..

how many of you have converted to Jehovah's witness since Prince has???

You follow a man who wouldn't go into the church where his mother's funeral was being held???

The music is funky...but it should end there...

You want Prince to turn the other cheek.
OK. Lets say he drops the lawsuit.
What is stopping freemyheart.com from resuming the offers of free downloads?
He refused before whats to stop him in the future from starting up again when he decides Prince is lagging behind in releasing music?
His past history of honoring Prince's wishes is poor.
You want Prince to turn the other cheek or do you mean bury his head in the sand?

It's not about "turning the other cheek" it is about allowing, nay actively encouraging fans to swap songs and recordings.

Anyway as stated on another thread - this person didn't host the music himself (he just linked to it, which is perfectly legal).

Well said Zaza.

Does anybody have a link to that self-righteous letter that M posted in response to P's request that he cease and desist?

BTW, also please notice that M has a link for "donations" to help him support his site.

Hey 2the9s why don't ya take the villagers and your torches and go burn some witches or something smile Come off it, how can you endorse such ugly capitalism ... Prince suing a fan for how much? For linking to some bootlegs? Fuck it, why don't a thousand of us all link to bootleg sites, he can't sue all of us.

If he should go after anyone, it's the guys pressing CDs of pirated Prince recordings and making a business out of it.

i dunno. i think prince is doing the right thing. it's his intellectual property and he has the right to control its distribution. offering downloads of someone else's music simply isn't cool. and when someone asks you to stop distributing their property then you listen. you respect that person's wishes. obviously the website wasn't listening. and i bet the lawsuit is a last resort.

the things that sucks about it is that there are so many folks who want to listen to the xenophobia sets. and, guessing from those nights with the chairs on the dance floor they were obviously recording, so there are some rare gems on these tracks. paying members of the NPGMC still await news of upcoming releases and the stuff is out there, available as downloads.
hehe. dang.

if prince is truly planning to distribute his own set compilation he should go ahead and do it soon

Lawyers need 2 make $.
Still, right is right and wrong is wrong.
If it is NOT your work then U don't have a legal right 2 use it in any way what so ever without Prince giving U the O.K..
Go Prince !
I just can't stand people taking my work from me without my O.K.
1 day maybe all of U will understand when someone takes your work without your O.K.
If the man or woman has no $ then he or she should not violate any LAW.
That is why we have Courts. 2 seek justice when someone violates any LAW.
It's better then pointing a gun at him and telling him 2 stop. The Court will tell him 2 stop.
Prince is doing the right thing by taking the man or woman 2 court 2 seek justice.

I think the smartest and most effecient way for Prince to "deal with this", would be to offer up that material and level of service himself, something he's been promising to do since his highly celebrated "emancipation". God knows we'd pay for the material and interest and membership in his increasingly lame website would increase.

That would squash it in a huge hurry.

Freemyheart was what NPGMC was supposed to be. Whay do I have more music from a free website than I do from my $100 membership fee? Does that make any sense?

I don't give a fuck about "M" but Herb is right... Prince owns the music, has the music and COULD throw the fans a bone every now and then... how hard is it?

Damn, he could press a CD a week if he is going to release live material to his club members instead of NEW music, yet he has not released a damned thing.

In effect, he is creating a market for bootlegs by his refusal to actually release any music at all.

Yeah I've always felt that the best thing Prince could have done is beat the bootleggers at their own game. When NPGMC was created, that was a great opportunity to do exactly that, but the 2002 edition has dropped the ball totally.

Well, with 14 members, at $100 a pop, that's $1400. They'll all meet up once a year for pizza and beer at Paisley Park.
