I like it, though I don't play it at all. It took a while for it to grow on me though.

It probably doesn't help that it's ten years old. It was awesome back in the day.

We all have different opinions on a Prince album. I have a couple of albums me only like one track and thats it. I like the prince alot, but one song from the album arrogance just get skipped the other songs me like to listen. I also liked the three chain o gold video collection.

Parade is a classic! Under the cherry moon is excellent, venus de milo and the rest will grow on you! I bought it straight after Purple Rain back in the day and although shocked at how different it was, it grew on me! It is a timeless classic!

Symbol has good and bad points! To messy to describe but has it's moments!

Every Album is different, that's what we love about Prince!

"And God Created Woman" out-classes them all!! Check that one out. I kinda like "Sweet Baby" too, and the first half of "Love 2 the 9s." Other songs are great, but I have to be in the mood: "The Continental," "The Sacrifice of Victor," and "The Max" oh yeah, and I dig, "3 Chains of Gold" -- entertaining fo' sho'.

edit: oops, i left off "Morning Papers" -- i love the sound of that guitar!!

The Symbol album doesn't get played very often in my CD player, but it has some excellent moments. Tracks such as 7, Morning Papers and Sexy MF would get on most Prince albums in terms of quality, but for me its not a classic album. Too many forgettable tracks and no overall cohesion to make it a classic.

Parade though, is a classic. I can't understand you not liking that one. 40 minutes worth of Gold IMO. Every track is brilliant. And what an ending! Sometimes It Snows In April is just perfect. So, stick that CD in again, you can't dislike that one - its not allowed!!

Suby... the only advice I can give you is to listen to it and give it a chance. Azure star is right, it DOES take a while to grow on you.

I disliked it at first, but there was a copy at the pottery co-op so I would spend many a late night/early morning throwing/jamming session down there. I had to listen to it quite a few times before I really started to dig it.

Same with TRC!

Well lets just say that The Symbol album is superior in all aspects to Rave, Emancipation, and especially TRC. I at least got my money out of The Symbol Album. Can`t say the same for Rave, Emancipation, and ESPECIALLY TRC.

When symbol album came out in '92', people said it was 2 good, and it unfortunetly was said 2 be an album dat was ahead of its time, like 10 years time?

A continuation of Diamonds & Pearls, yes it was commercial soundin, but most diverse album i eva heard and 1 of my all-time favs. Just listen 2 the intense funk/rap number, 'My Name Is Prince', and the gosphel/acoustic upliftin number of 7, this shows its depth. When i first heard '3 Chains O Gold', i never thought music could be like dat, it is the perfect tempo changin song, dat doesn't sound like a few tracks joined 2gether 2 make 1 track, like so many other artists. I think u have 2 listen 2 symbol a few times, 2 really experience its sophisticated and genius composition, it is very creative and i haven't heard anythin soundin like it since.

It got number 1 in the UK, and spawned 2 top-ten hits, also in the US it made 2 top-ten hits, and 7 just missed out on the top-spot.

Sam wink

I listened to "Symbol" in my car all last week, so it's interesting to talk about it.

The biggest problem with "Symbol" is the lyrics: they are so JUVINILE; Prince was trying to MANUFACTURE a tough, attitude thru this album, taking it further than "Diamonds and Pearls".

The lyrics are either bragging, obscure, immature, full of attitude, and Prince was just giving what he thought the public wanted from him; or what he thought he had to do to still be revelant.

1)"My Name is Prince" sounds cool, but is just 6 min of bragging:

2)"The Max": "YO YO BAY-BEE, tell me where the Party's at!" Jeez...

#3**)" I Wanna Melt With U" : "Don't look now there's a river of blood/ you must have been a virgin... possibly the stupidist lyric in Prince's history; it RUINED that song.

4) Who likes "Sweet Baby"?

5) "Arrogance/The Flow", again sounds cool, but MORE bragging;

6) was "3 Chains of Gold" ripping or making fun of "Bohemian Raposody" which was big at the time of "D&P"?

7) Kirstie Alley bits... a way for Prince to either sound cool("son of a bitch hung up") or bragging some more, trying to tell the world he was scoring with Mayte.

Listening to "Sumbol 10 years later, Prince has not put out as energetic an album since. But it suffers, like all NPG albums, from ATTITUDE and a FALSENESS. No wonder Prince had "become ashamed of what Prince had become".

Listen to "Parade", "Sign" , "Lovesexy", or "TRC" and you get a GENUINE Prince, more mature if not bizarre lyrics."Symbol" sounds cool musically, but the LYRICS and ATTITUDE KILL it!

===

"Parade", is a MASTERPIECE of ORIGINALITY and BRILLIANCE! His best work in the 80's PERIOD! Hasn't aged.

This album and the NPG's playing are tighter than Carmen Electra's cute ass lol In retrospect, it could have been cut down to 13 tracks like Diamonds And Pearls, I think it suffers from being a little too long especially when that last segue comes on before Sacrafice. I actually rarely listen to it for some reason.

I agree with Anji. This album could have been classic if it was shorter and/or had less filler.

Here's my tracklist:

My Name Is Prince
Sexy MF
Love 2 the 9's
The Morning Papers
Sweet Baby
The Continental
Damn U
7
And God Created Woman
3 Chains O' Gold

I actually do like some of the tracks I've left off, but I don't think they're needed for this album.
