Recent MPLS Prince-related Stuff Nothing earthshattering but, considering the topics of some of the other threads seen around this joint, no one better get on my butt about my one piddly little contribution to lame threads.
I live in the Minneapolis area and recently have seen/heard a few Prince related things in the media that were amusing so I thought I'd share them with you all... 1. A few weeks ago, a DJ on one of the local radio stations announced that that day was Prince's birthday and then proceeded to play a couple Prince songs in tribute. Interestingly, the day the DJ mistakenly announced as being Prince's b-day was, in actuality, Mani's birthday (whatever exact date that is, can't recall right now) 2. More recently, like in the past week, another DJ on a different local station was whining and complaining about the last Prince concert he attended. I don't believe he stated when or where that concert was, but his big complaint was that he felt it was "unfair" that people who were "members of Prince's internet club" got all these extra perks at the show that HE DIDN'T GET! His argument was that HE ALSO paid good money to purchase his tickets to the same concert as the club members, and therefore he should also have been allowed those same perks and benefits at that show (soundcheck access and better seats) as club members. *wah* 3. Just tonight I saw a latenight commercial for a local video store, featuring local celebrity Fancy Ray (those in the Mpls. area know who I am refering to! He kinda looks like Little Richard) dressed in a Purple Rain-like outfit..purple coat, white ruffled shirt, etc., and a PR era hairdo, dancing around the video store to very Prince-like background music. The music wasn't an actual Prince song, as far as I could tell. The end of the commercial was a close-up of Fancy Ray's butt shaking real fast, obviously similiar to the famous scenes in PR of Prince's spectacular booty (the scenes were similiar, I mean, not Fancy Ray and Prince's butts ) I don't know if this commercial is a new one, but I watch a lot of latenight TV and have never seen it before. So there you are. As I said, nothing earthshaking, but oh well. Killed a few minutes. | |
