Papa and Dark are better than anything on The Rainbow Children.

Although I do like both albums... I would pick Come in a heartbeat. There's something really special about that album to me. I know as an album it's basically a watered down vision. I've read original tracklist configurations which would make the album a much more traditional sounding Prince album, but I think it's that stipped back vibe that appeals to me.

Controversial pro-black agenda is what?

Surely the only theme Prince views all areas of human activity through is his religion? At least white supremacy exists and is a tangible reality to rail against. He touches on one aspect of it alone, slavery during Family Name.

Yea, because Come was the one first of many "contractual oligation" recordings he released at Warners before leaving to do his own thang. Some of the tracks were already written during the 1991- 1992 Love Symbol sessions and most of them were already recorded. All I know, I like it.

Ummm, I think if you actually go back and dig into the history of this album you will see that it really isn't as "contractual" as people make it out to be. As far as I know, only Race is from the prince sessions. Most of the other tracks were recorded during the same period of time as The Gold Experience tracks were. Indeed, songs often jumped back and forth between the two and all may even have been intended for a big 3CD set at one point.

Prince, obviously, really liked these tracks - having included many in The Beautiful Experience TV special, and the Glam Slam Ulysses play. Now, Come as an album may have been slightly different under other circumstances but I wouldn't slight the content by association with the games that came later between WB and Prince. It's rather like tossing out the baby because Mommy and Daddy are having a divorce. lol

But, of course, like a "Strawberry, Chocolate, Fender Jazz, Mash Potato, Fuzztone All Ova' Your Thighs", right? I mean, that is the "ONLY" Come I know.

If Come is an abortion then TRC is Nellie Olson.

There's simply not enough good material on come.
The title track has its moments but is far too long and repetitive.
Loose is really dull

I like "space"

"race" is dull
papa isn't really a song but a track. guess what The pop legend had a troubled relationship with his dad!!!.
Come on.... Every 2nd male has had the same deal.

I like "in the dark" and "solo"

"Let it go" is very bad. prince usually has a tough time closing an album. (for me). Sometimes he manages to do it well.
"It's going to be lonely"
"purple rain"
"reflection"
"sometimes it snows in April"
to mention but 4 where he does the album Justice

"graffitti bridge"
"temptation"
"gold"
"get on the boat"
now listening to these from beginning to end is a horrendous ordeal

"Let it go" falls into the latter category.

There is so much new stuff on "The Rainbow Children". Almost every song is amazing.

I love the "Come" album. I think it's one of his best albums of the 90's, but I'm gonna have to go with "The Rainbow Children" on this one.

But they are two great albums though.

"Pheromone" is as great a song as anything in his classic era 80-87!!!

Any album with "pheromone" is ok with me!!!

TRC is a dumb pretentious silly p.o.s, .....and that's the truth Ruth!!!

It has to be COME, but then again, I would chose ABBAs greatest hits over TRC. Its that bad really. TRC is a very bad record not just for the lyrics, but the horrible production. The over the top effects, Darth Vader pointless dialog and stupid storyline, over the top arrangements, Assembly of Paradise type spiritual breakdown, the absense of any cussing or sexual tension, cheesy synths, pathetic attempts at humor, caberet sunday night jazz, anti-semitism, I could go on. The only winner on that record is She Loves Me for Me which doesnt sound like it was made at the same time as the rest of them and was from his back catalogue and sounds like the only song which has no annoying JW references (which are fucking the last stages of his recording career IMHO).

COME, on the other hand is a sexually driven chargin of soul and funk. The record doesnt have any strong songs because Prince's writing ability by this time has already started deteriorating for some reason, but his musicianship, production and vocals really shine through on this.

They're both musically satisfying, but my vote goes to Come. That's honestly one of his most underappreciated albums.
