What happened to the serious discussions that were once possible on the org
(and to all the knee-jerk posters: did you notice that both the title and content of the thread were full of question marks???? - I was trying to raise some issues that were disturbing me, but it seems that's no longer an option here). "We've never been able to pull off a funk number"

American culture is generally way behind your level of ecological consciousness currently. Eventually they'll come to realise the points you raised are far from laughable and have no small part of merit to them. Housequake have just started a similar themed thread I notice, don't know if you started it but the replies have been much more mature and considered. Mainly Europeans over there ya see... What actions is he taking / has he taken to save the planet? I was so impressed with all the L4OA stuff in the late 90s. The food drives at concerts and the 2000 celly were touching (if a little cheesy) because they were clearly sincere and not attention-getting (the media didn't give a rat's bottom about TAFKAP at the time). The fact that much of L4OA's activities were about empowerment (including political - e.g. for black women) rather than just distributing alms also made it feel like it had some depth of thought and was not merely token. And then it disappeared... And now he's called his album PE and then printed millions of copies of a disk, many of which will get tossed in the trash. It seems childish and egotistical not to realize that such a superficial treatment of so critical an issue can be perceived as callous cynicism and make a mockery of the idea itself... A little bit more than my 2 cents, sorry (but it's been bothering me). cheap hypocorisy? Let's call it American hypocrisy. The points you raised express my sentiments also. If he wants to lead any kind of way then let him keep his holier than thou attitude, if he must, but also use his influence and freedom to publicly do something good, thereby setting an example for others. Who really needs another hypocrite preacher? He should go 1 way or the other, As it is he's goin' nowhere but on my nerves. small circles, big wheels!
I've got a pretty firm grip on the obvious!

OK it can be considered as "cheap hypocrisy" now what? People form opinions based on what others do all the time... It doesn't mean they can do a thing to change what they perceive. It seems as though u formed ur opinion before u posted and then u decided to pose ur opinion as a question. So maybe to u it was a monumental revelation but to others its nothing more than ur opinion. There's certainly nothing wrong with that.

Thanks, checked it out (wasn't me who started that one). What a difference! - heaven and Earth. Correct me if I'm wrong but Prince's way to "save" the planet isn't through conservation and recycling but rather through prayer.
So with that in mind, I thought I'd write my own little song that I believe sums up Prince's spiritually conscious view of the environment.... "Pray Away" by December1984 You want your hair be big and bold, buy yourself some spray. There won't be no hole in the o-zone if you take time to pray. (Chorus) Just pray, and pray and keep throwing it all away. Jesus is our own room service. Make the call today! Buy yourself an SUV Drive it all damn day. If you want cheap gasoline you just got to pray. (Chorus) Drop your garbage in the ocean Sink it all the way. Jesus come like Mister Clean if you take time to pray.

i think you've raised a very interesting point, his ideas are very conflicting, one minute he's talking about saving planet earth, the next he's chirping on about how much money he has and 'clime in my private jet, i'm taking you to dinner', it seems his preaching doesn't actually apply to himself (but then, isn't that what preachers do), either that or there's some kind of split personality thing going
on. he did the same in late eighties, remember the song sex? that was about monogamy and trust (apparently) and about having to lovers meant "death" that same year he wrote love left, love right which was about satisfying 2 women at the same time. the song planet earth says - there are 2 kinds of people, the one's that give and the ones that take, which one is he?

Ha thats Prince's philosophy concisely done yeah. Everything is being controlled by his god so why bother. The end days are upon us... [Edited 8/7/07 12:36pm] Glug, glug like a mug
