The Same December vs. Last December

I brought up this topic with 2 different songs but with similar meanings and title. Chaos' Same December and Rainbow's Last December. Well! I've stated long time ago that Chaos and Disorder is not one of my faves from PRINCE. In fact, it's one of the worst albums he's ever made. But it does have a few bright spots and "Same" is one of them. This is one of the few songs I like on this collection but it still doesn't compare to "Last December". This song is a definite true classic and not just from Prince but music period. In my opinion, it's one of the best songs on TRC and definitely kicks "Same"'s ass out the window. So my pick is by a landslide, "Last December" by a knockout. That's my pick and I'm sticking with it.
Peace and be wild!

Sorry I dont understand how you can think Chaos is one of his worst albums and then state that Last December is one of his best songs. Either you have weird (or bad) taste, or you are deaf!

C&D is the BEST album he made in the 90's.

TGE has great individual moment, but C&D works as a complete album for me. For example, Dolphin, Most Beautiful Girl, 319, Gold, I hate U etc are awesome songs, but its let down by (although good, but generally weaker) tracks, Now, Shy, Billy Jack B and by overproduction (Endorphinmachine, Shhh) and those annoying computer blips and intros...

C&D is simple, straight to the point, raw, funky, funny acid rock! Its Kickin Ass! The best thing about it, it has no fillers - I can listen to it straight thru.

"Same December" kicks "Last December's" ass. In fact "Last December" is kind of a pussy, if we're being honest.

no fillers? it's mostly fillers, to me. leftovers from the Come/Gold sessions and leftovers from the Emancipation sessions. it has a few moments, and it does sound surprisingly cohesive considering the number of styles covered and the hodgepodge nature of it. but about half of it is filler.

The Same December is one of the stronger tracks on C&D, but I prefer Last December by a wide margin.

Definitely "Last December". It's too deep.

Aaaaahhhh!!!

I really love both these songs, but I'm gonna pick Last December for one reason only.

The pause in the lyrics in the opening line.

"If your last December.....came what would you do?"

Every time I hear it I appreciate that moment more and more.
So look into the mirror, do u recognise some1? Is it who u always hoped u would become, when u were young?

I love Same Decemeber ...especially the caphony by the end and the convergence of musical styles. I also like the theme and personality.

I also love Last December. IT is haunting. It can actually make me cry. "In your life did you just give a little. Or did you give all that you had?" cry "Were you just somewhere in the middle? Not to good, not to bad?" eek cry convicted!

But it does have some annoyances -- like the 'name of the Father, name of the son" chorus, the time it takes to get to the last verse, and the long, long, long, long space at the end before one, one, one, one...

I have to fast forward thru that song quite a bit. I resent that.
Also, it doesn't have the personality of the first and it is one of those brainwashed religous songs.

But still I pick LAST DECEMBER as the winner.

Lets have a "Decmeber" war lol I think Ure entitled to your opinion. I listened to Same December on Saturday and it has a great opening line and interesting tune.. its ambitious and intense. Its just so religious, I can see it being played in a Paradise JW assembly church - with eyes closed and arms up in the air... ahh ahh ahh.. in the name of the father....

sorry it's meaningless to me. its preachy and its trite.

I'm not deaf and I do have taste. Besides, I'm not the only one in the world who doesn't care for Chaos & Disorder. I have friends who agree that's not his best effort. And as for Last December, have you really listened to it? Have you noticed how beautiful the song is and how rich it is? I guess not!

OK chaos and disorder's not Prince's greatest album, but I think its his best 90's album because the others were a very low/poor standard.

C&D is the last Prince album I have liked all the way through. I think it's really solid. Better "rock" guitar than the ballyhooed "Fury" and "Guitar" both of which are lame, in my estimation.
Also, a friend asked me the other day if I had the new Prince cd or was going to get it. I surprised myself with my answer. I hadn't thought much about it and just might not bother to buy it. Used to be, Prince could get away with saturating the market because the material was so strong. Not anymore. So much crap on his albums. I can't justify buying an album for the 1 or 2 good songs.

thats exactly it!

you hit the nail on the head when you say that guitar sounds lame, so do half the "rock" songs on PE. They sound contrived, not natural. C&D is a ROCK album, its just low down dirty blues rock and roll, all raw and all really cool. PE is NOT cool. The TRC was not cool. They are both really contrived sounding, preachy. C&D had it, Prince has now lost whatever he had back then...
