What do you think Prince has to do to be all over the charts again? Tell me what is it gonna take to get Prince back to number 1 again? What career move do you think he has to adapt?

Either produce one tremendously underground, controversial funk jam and send it to the clubs, or produce a slick ballad pop single and send it to the radio stations. I vote for the former.
Either way, he's done it before. It's nothing new. He'll do it again when he has something smokin' hot

At this point,I really don't believe Prince could have a major hit song unless he signs with a major company and record a radio-friendly "pop" album again. He doesn't seem interested in doing this.

F the charts! | |

Whatever he has to do, I hope he doesn't. A radio freindly artist wouldn't release TRC, his best album in years. So who needs the charts?
I'm sure that "all" he needs is another song along the lines ofTMBGITW to be big again, but he'll never get near sales/success of before. Look at all the money MJ threw at Invincible, only to get nowhere near previous figures. Personally, I'm happier as he is, not having brainless jocks knocking his stuff as used to happen -----------------------------------------

Not this same discussion again!! Prince doesn't bother to get on the charts these days. It is true however that always when he does an attempt something goes terribly wrong. I think that he is on a point right now in his carreer when he is very happy with the way things are going right now. No major label, no chains etc but the only problem is the distribution of his CDs. The club is only working for a few fanatic ppl. A lot of music lovers are missing some real funky experimental music because thet can't but it in a record store. But let's not forget the attempt to score a hit on the album charts he is planning right now. THE FIRST EVER RELEASED LIVE BOX from Prince!! When he works out a good distribution deal and it is available in alot of stores for a normal price!!! then this is maybe the last opportunity to score a massive hit again. Not with a wacky pop song, but with true musicianship!
Let's hope he'll handle things right this time! And that no stupid things get messed up. U GO PRINCE! I got a ticket for the last show of the euro ONA tour!

At most he'd be a session player in the studio or the water boy at concerts. He deffinately wouldn't be Prince anymore Visual: Bold Guy = Prince (can you spot him?) this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy this guy that guy "The Daisy Chain" I don't think people are as unsatisfied with Prince's output as they are with the industry's output. People just want to see their heroes inspire the masses just like they inspired them. Too bad none of our heroes own MTV or Clearchannel. Prince came into the scene at the right time for him and held a great and productive carreer and is still at the right place for himself now, able to continue to grow and mature both as a musician and a human being. Think any new, experimental, innovative stuff would be allowed out into the mainsteam now? It's all good! [This message was edited Tue Oct 1 8:56:47 PDT 2002 by yamomma] All Rights Reserved. |

Well for one, i disagree that he couldn't write a great song and still get it played on the radio. People are starving for great music to be released--and songs like, say, DOW or Interactive(only examples) could have been a hit while keeping his intregity.
But, of course, we don't live in a vacuum...Prince has burned a lot of bridges with record execs and video channels-so the chance of him actually getting solid backing on a new single and video are slim to none. But does he really want this? Maybe, but will he? Probably not. He'll likely do very little promotion for the new CD and sell 150,000 copies. Hey, it's his music right? Of course it is, but i hate watching great talent piss on itself just the same.

realease a good, mainstream, yet original record (without trying too hard to please everybody like he did with "rave un2"), release some decent singles with good videos, maybe a duet with alicia keys, give some interviews without talking crazy stuff, tour exactly like he does and that´s it. Maybe let someone famous remix his singles (Neptunes or Norman Cook). See the man with the blue guitar, maybe one day he`ll be a star...

This hard-on u fams have for chart success confirms that Prince is merely a pop artist. Isn't he more that that? test

None of his successful albums were really all that radio friendly.

I want him all over the charts again and busting serious Ass cause I Know he's the Best and I Love him and it upsets me these lesser talented artists are doing better than him on the charts and with the Teenagers. I want everybody to say Prince and Smile a big Smile ! What can I tell you I Care!

There's a better chance of him going on a shooting spree and being all over the charts of the FBIs 10 most wanted.

There's always a revival going on somewhere. Before long someone will pick up Prince again as the 'hot' thing to listen to. Or, it might take another decade. Anything he's tried just doesn't seem to work well. But it also seems like he doesn't really make an effort to release ONE jam GLOBALLY and to radiostations and stores PLUS A COOL VIDEO delivered IN TIME. He never does that, so he probably just doesn't care. Which is ok if he's happy with that, I guess. The problem is that he just went through that, with Donny from NKOTB, Alicia "White" Keys and D'Angelo doing high-profile Prince covers, all those magazine covers for RAVE, everyone mentioning Prince in their interviews, but it's not about his new music anymore. He should have released that Gwen song as a video. That would have worked. Although is MTV and VH1 kissed his ass like they kiss MJ's, he'd have a better chance. Yeah you've got it right - YOU want him all over the charts. Prince turned his back on all the starmaker machinery years ago. Prince doesn't want teenagers at his concerts screamimg non-stop. He had that & doesn't want it. You don't know Prince if thats what you want for him.

I know what you're saying, but there are tons of teenagers who can appreciate and respect great music--i was one of them. I think we use that 'teenybopper' phrase too loosely, when it was only during Purple Rain that he had the bandwagon fans...and ATWIAD quickly gave them the boot. LOL

What will it take for you to stop worrying about his popularity with the eMpTV crowd? And go listen to some Genuwine or something more your speed. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Release everything from the 80's that he held back, sleep with another big record company(read the contract more closely this time Prince), scantily clad women, better produced videos and be produced by the Neptunes. __________________________________________________
