Musicology, 3121, Planet Earth; the Latest Trilogy

Prince love the three great pyramids of Egypt. They inspired the 3 discs of Emancipation, Crystal Ball (including the unreleased version/Dream Factory?), New Power Pack, and now, Musicology, 3121, and Planet Earth?

The last three albums have an undeniable similarity. They are all short, no nonsense, song collections that each have their own sound & style, but are not far removed from each other--much like the three discs of Emancipation (Emancipation being 1 hour as opposed to 45 minute discs). They're immediately accessible, not too deep, and have coincided with Prince's return to the spotlight.

I'd also say they have a fairly consistently good quality, not hitting extreme lows or extreme highs. They're a huge shift after The Rainbow Children's meandering creativity.

I wonder if he planned this three record trip, or if it just worked out this way?

What's Prince's best 3 record collection, in your opinion?

Do those feel connected to you, or are they just the three best in a row?

well, the three that feel really connected and are my fav are:

parade
sign o the times
the black album

songs from various projects covered all those albums at some stage
and they represent prince's creative high imo.

but since the black album was not released until 94 i guess some
people will say i can't include it.

but fuck 'm. i will biggrin

so my final choice is:

parade
sign o the times
the black album

worship
