repeated references in Prince's music

One thing I like about Prince is the way he repeats words/themes in different songs from different time periods, which provides a kind of mysterious continuity. For example, the phrase 'diamonds and pearls'was obviously used in 'International Lover' back in '82 and then used as an album title 9 years later and in 'Sign 'O the Times' he refers to Hurricane Annie which was probably a conscious nod to 'Annie Christian'.

Can anyone think of any others?

I think you're reaching with that one!

How about "Reproduction of a new breed, leaders stand up, organise" from Sexuality and The Rainbow Children
"Sheeeeeeeeit"

Actually, I think it's a valid comment since Annie probably represents the evil in the world (anti-Christian word play in the Contoversy song).

It's possible, considering there is no Hurricane Annie.

In Purple Rain the movie I think it was or possibly Graffitti Bridge theres a shot of Prince going through music sheets of different songs. One of the sheets reads "Rave un2 the joy fantastic".

u know they DO actually NAME Hurricanes, perhaps THAT was the name of this one.

of all the recurring references, that one was really a reach. i do like the sexuality/TRC "new breed" reference. i'll have to post again when i think of one

How many times has he said "Best I/You ever had"?

Someone started a thread about Prince using the "chain around your waist/hip" line in a few songs. I can't remember all the songs that were mentioned.
