Question to Aussie Prince fans

Does anybody in Australia have information regarding Princes singles and albums Australian chart positions, or a link to such information? The ariacharts site doesn't appear to have a database where you can type in the artist and get the details, and it only displays the current charts.

I'm really interested in fiding out his Australian chart history (not bothered with 'urban' charts etc, just the main national chart positions) to see what singles and albums of his were big there and which weren't - I've been recently looking at his charting history in a few other countries and am constantly surprised at what sneaks in as a hit and what misses completely.

Here's all I know about his Australian album & singles charting so far: Musicology album #15, single #29 - Purple Rain album #1, Diamonds & Pearls & Symbol album both #1 (no doubt him touring there around that time helped), Come album #2 - Planet earth album currently #38 (this is all the info i found on the ariacharts site). I also know that Contoversy was a pretty big hit back in the day (though don't know the chart position). That's it, that's all the info i have. I'm after as much information as possible - but every little bit you can offer will help.

So what can you tell me?? smile What reached the top? What almost made it? Where did the generally lesser-known singles chart? Sexuality? Take Me With U? Glam Slam? New Power Generation? Morning Papers? Pink Cashmere? Space? The One? TGRES? Black Sweat? Did any of them make a dent in Australia (or anywhere else in the world for you non-Aussies reading this)?

Please, any information would be great, and if possible, links would be greatly appreciated.

cheers! wink

Cool thanks for the responses. I've managed to come across some other australian chart info:
10 thieves in the temple
4 gett off
3 cream
15 7
9 money don't matter 2 night
9 diamonds and pearls
6 my name is prince
2 sexy m.f
1 When Doves Cry
27 peach
30 letitgo
39 the good life
20 betcha by golly wow
(& 1 martika ..... love...thy will be done)
But apart from Doves I've found absolutely nothing on the rest of his 80's output so I'll definately keep an eye out for the upcoming info on the http://www.facedownunder.com/ site.

Once again, thanks for the responses
thumbs up!

Also, as i said in the inital post, I've been recently looking at his charting history in a few other countries and am constantly surprised at what sneaks in as a hit and what misses completely - here i was surprised to sexy Sexy M.F. getting all the way to No.2, thats the highest position I've found that song yet - I wonder if it managed to hit No.1 anywhere in the world?

From the seven countries that i've so far got complete (or near complete) chart history from, i've discovered that his albums have produced 48 different top 20 hits, with a few other singles getting close to the top 20 (and thats not counting urban or dance charts, just national top 50's) - so potentially his albums may have already produced over 50 top 20's which is pretty damn impressive.

God, Australia likes the crap singles! Except Doves of couse. I can't imagine Come getting to number two on the albums charts here either, doesn't seem like a very "australia" friendly album razz

Yea, that surprised me too - but that's one of only bits of prince chart info they provide on this page http://www.ariacharts.com...ifacts.htm

Powderfinger I can just handle...Silverchair used to be good but who knew the Nirvana wannabes of the 90s would come out with pop fluff like Straight Lines? ill

Well when I left Oz in 1998 I remember they were a bit of an upcoming indy band, didnt think they would get so famous. I found the lead vocalist' voice a bit annoying.

Silverchair had that fluke hit "tomorrow" which sounded exactly like Nirvana, except in the blurry video clip you can see that they are all kids. The lead volcalist looked exactly like a kid version of Kurt Cobain, he even cpìed that Kurt smile (from Teen Spirit). The only problem was when they recorded "freak of nature" I realised they we NO Nirvana, just wannabees.

okay its gone from #3- to #2 in this thread- any advances lol

i remember seeing it a lot on vid shows- and usually right at the end when the #1 song was played- but as i said b4- i have selective memory lol- it may have been a "song 2 watch/prediction" who knows- in my defense, id just started a relationship with the man that was 2 become my husband- prince wasnt a big priority 2 me around this time lol

Okay thats cool to know - i didn't get those early 90's chart figures from the official aria site because they don't provide older info, i discovered this site here http://www.onmc.iinet.net...e/1991.htm - going back over the site i noticed the very fine small print that says: [Disclaimer: The Oz Net Music Chart is an independent compilation chart based on statistics taken from several sources and is in no way connected to A.R.I.A. nor any other sales based chart. The Oz Net Chart is not an 'official' Australian chart listing.]

So that explains that.

Hopefully xperience319 does a better job of tracking down the official figures for the upcoming feature/page on http://www.facedownunder.com/
