CONVERTED HATER!!! Ever so often we talk about how he doesnt put any effort in marketing himself ...for instance, the superbowl was the perfect time for Prince to up the ante...come on ,this is when an album should've dropped!
Instead of giving away 3 million copies in the u.k Prince would have ruled the galaxy if he did that at the super bowl stadium...or at least release PE at midnight after his killer performance that evening...keep the momentum going... how many copies you think he would've sold the DAY AFTER? Wether Prince admit it or not,sales & chart position does matter to him! I remember super bowl night I was on a cruise (working)& while he performed (we saw it on a giant screen with killer sound)there were A lot of haters in the theatre ,talking all sorts of crap ,calling him "purple Stain" and shit like that ...but as his performance got deeper ,the mood and attitude changed ,jaws dropped...then some haters started to sing along ...that was sooo amazing !!! hating a minute ago then singing along like they were hypnotized or something ...i was almost in tears from what I saw in that theatre ...i was beside an older woman who was just spitting nasty comments about Prince while his set started and then came "purple Rain"...I turned to look at her (cause she went silent ...i swear i saw her wiping tears because of the song ...then i got so emotional ...it was contageous...after Prince the lights went up a little and everyone cheered ,it was a now a theatre full of Prince fans...the day after we were in Key West ,i went to a CD shop & to my surprise i saw miss cry baby with 3 prince cd's with credit card in hand...(she had purple rain,1999,diamonds & pearls).Its just goes to show how much of a performer Prince is ...how many out there can covert a hater? | |

Come on man. Why are Prince's sales or marketing efforts so important for your life? That's his life, his career, what he wants to do. If you spent 10% as much time worrying about your own life... I own the album, I like it. Whether it is #2 or number #200 doesn't matter to me. I don't get off on what other people buy or think is good. I agree, if people truely listen to his musci most of the time not all the time their vibe changes torwards him. Others just don't like him. I was sitting in a barbershop waiting for someone and as we were leaving (the people had one of those radio stations on that play strictly 80s) "Let's go crazy" came on & one lady was like "Prince" and I had a huge smile cos thats one of my fav. songs, then the other lady looks at her and says " you mean princ-ESS" and shes like "yeah, thats waht I said". Haters, I know. But if you ask me when people do that, sometimes its out of ignorance and based on other people opinons too, it rubs off...And it doesn't matter when Prince releases or doesn't release his CD because his true fans will buy it based on a good superbowl performance or not.

It is amazing that Prince seems to conjure up the power to create a new wave of appeal from time to time, then he slowly erodes it, then gets it back again. He's the main converter of his own fandom.
