Imagine someone else producing Does anyone here think it might be interesting / good for Prince to let someone else produce an album to see what it comes out like? Production wise, is he as good now as he was 15 years ago?
I think that on the Rainbow Children, if there was someone there to really direct him, tell him to can certain sounds (the slow voice, the first 3 minutes of Family Name, drop Wedding Feast), he could have really come out with a much better album. I know that on that album he's trying to get a message across, but would it be good for someone to be there to really push him, to tell him that certain songs are too weak to go an an album? Emancipation is another record where if he had had someone really telling him to put out a double album and not a triple one then it would probably be seen as a true classic! Don't get me wrong, I think that some of the albums that Prince has produced are fantastic, Purple Rain,Lovesexy, Love album, but I think it would be interesting for a world famous producer to give it a go for one album, to spend more time and energy in the studio getting it all right before release.

Nobody can do for Prince better than he can do for himself, if they could they'd be where he is today right?

I would be so disappointed. Prince does Prince music best.

I'm not sure Prince needs producing by "someone else" as much as he simply needs to be a part of a music industry not reliant on 13-year olds to be stars or consumers. Support via long-term AND FAIR record contracts, radio airplay, video production and rotation on music channels that actually play music videos, DVD and special-edition collections (it happened for Beyonce after all), and tours that don't involve selling-out to already big-name companies in order to be sponsored would be a good idea.

without the "slow voice" the title track would just be another conservative jazzy song like what Sting did in 1986! YUCK! I like Prince's scifi touches. It's what keeps me interested. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Man, you know some shit. I always seem to agree with what you have to say. He is exactly who we thought he was

It would be nice to hear Prince produced by someone else. It's not that I think he NEEDS it... but it would be nice to hear how others would set him up. My choices would be:
Ahmir "?uestlove" Thompson & James Poyser Rick Rubin Raphael Saadiq Steve 'The Scotsman' Harvey Van Hunt

I'd love to see the Chemical Brothers have a go at some of his more recent material. Planet Earth and Musicology were both a bit lite for my taste.
