Wonder why Prince didn't put his face on the ONA cd?

Besides the obvious Black album and the odd ATWIAD cover, Prince's mug has been on every release. Was the ego dropped or was it more like he didn't have time to bother with the cover since he was not trying to 'sell' the cd? Just curious

His face isn't on the cover of various albums throughout his career. Is it not reasonable that he sometimes wanted something other than his face on the cover? Ever notice how many times Led Zeppelin's album covers featured that bands faces? Might as well ask why Prince doesn't play guitar on every single song on every single album.

Fact: Prince was on the cover of "The Rainbow Children". Open up the outside cover & U will see Prince standing by the painting.
As 4 the ONA cd. Prince must have been shy at that time or just didn't want 2 show his sexy face & body.
I guess we will just have 2 ask Prince. As he is the only 1 that knows the answer 2 this or any question.

I really suspect because this time it's for religious reasons.

The whole "false idoltry" has him probably moving away from putting himself in a idoltrious position.

Notice that in the ONA tour book, Prince is very conservative in dress. He shows his ring also in most of the studio pics. Strange, but observable.

The other photos are of him doing his "trade".

Just some observations. I may be wrong, but I would bet it's because of that.

And for those who say "It's all about the music...that's what matters", PLEASE.

It's all part of the experience. If Prince would have been a dressed in khaki's and loafers with a button down shirt while singing Kiss...would you have cared? Please, it matters. Stop kidding yourselves. It is what it is.

He now wants people to focus on the music after he spent 20 years getting them to focus on his persona.

The trench coat and thongs, stockings, outfits with his "cameltoe" swinging, pimp canes, makeup, wild hairdos, name change etc. had nothing to do with music and everything to do with his image.

He's going in a different direction now and it seems that he wants people to focus on the music rather than on his image.

That ain't the cover, it's the side. Without REALLY looking, you'd never notice him - very different impact than putting your mug on the cover.

But who really cares anyway? neutral

I loved the "one-two" punch of music and image. It's one of many things that put Prince in a class by himself. To me his ability to produce music that is astonishing and couple that with performances and visual images that were, for me, spine-tingling, makes him unique.

It would be sad if he completely stopped the showmanship that went along w/ the music. (Especially if the reason behind it is religious/idoltry) He is one of the few that had the talent to back up the pyrotechics.
I'm firmly planted in denial

You're right. It has a "very different impact".Because his face is on the spine of TRC I now have to see his face staring at me everytime I pass my CD collection rack.

"Had nothing to do with the music"??? Again, DENIAL! That's kinda like saying that his music didn't matter because he was all about the image. That's Madonna. His music always mattered!

Miles Davis said "Prince looks like he sounds".

ANd do you have inside knowledge of this. Is this what he told you?

And image, image really is everything, cover paintings, to fonts, to the way the album is packaged, posters...it's ALL image.

ANd his latest hairdo, it's from the (nasty) Gold/Slave on Cheek era. ANd it's still a wild hair do!

Ha, Bumpsquad you are funny!

I just thought it was uncharacteristic, One Night Alone, its such a totally singular solo project. All the other faceless cd covers were such a colaborative effort, with a group of musicians, multiple comp. set like CB or soundtrack. Maybe Larry was behind the whole idea. evillol
