I don't think Prince will play New Wave again Nope, I can't see him trying to kick out the old school New Wave/Synth-Funk jams at this point. Well, we know by now that New Wave is dead and that bands like The Killers and The Bravery are a bunch of posers that are just paying tribute to a overlooked genre. But it would be really nice to see him maybe incorporate some of those great sounds into his music for today. But as I see it, that's just not where he's at. I can't picture him creating something as amazing as "Annie Christian" or "Do It All Night" today. Those were beautiful sounds that are still inspirational to me. But I guess he sees it as an 80's thing. I know I can always just whip out the "Dirty Mind", "Controversy", or "1999" albums to reminisce, but I'd love to hear a millenium take on that. It is sad though when I think about that fact though. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

seriously its like the one genre he seems afraid of acknowledging his past success with.
Check out the original version of Tick Tick Band! His synth laden tracks are bogged down by boring, predictable beats and R&B cliches. I'd love to hear him tackle a couple of songs in the vein of Something in the Water, I would Die For U, Dirty Mind, Cool. Lolita was sort of close but we need more!

Strictly speaking, Prince never flat out did New Wave. His earliest records had dashes of that style, but it was, like most things, mixed into a Princely hybrid. "New Power slide...."

So. Thats shouldn't stop him from creating those great sounds. If that was the cae then bands like Duran Duran, Gang of Four, The B-52's, Depeche Mode, yada yada yada wouldn't keep it going. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

Kinda funny that you brought this up and the USA Today review calls it 'retro new wave' & R&B.
