ONA live cd release party Pics and articles... New york Daily news on the ONA live CD party...
http://www.nydailynews.co...0747c.html A Princely distance You've heard of a VIP area. Prince needs a VVIP area. People still devoted to the petite pop star began arriving at Jimmy's Uptown in Harlem at 8 Tuesday night to attend a "listening party" for his new CD, "One Nite Alone Live." When did Prince show? About 1 a.m. In one area was a roped-off spot where guests could gawk at the "Purple Rain" man in a second roped-off area. Having flown in from his Paisley Park studio in Minnesota, the funkman began receiving his most important guests. R&B singer Musiq was among the first summoned. Salma Hayek and Ed Norton came and stayed a while. Others included Cassandra Wilson, Doug E. Fresh, Meshell Ndegéocello and her girlfriend, Rebecca Walker (novelist Alice's daughter). After a mere hour, Prince headed to Lotus. Despite the host's brief stay, Parliament/Funkadelic father George Clinton still had a good time. "I'm so drunk right now, I'm over the influence," said Clinton, whose mane sprouted a feather and hot-pink extensions. ctnow on ONA live cd release party http://www.ctnow.com/ente...ertainment A symbol no more Next to Prince, the Sphinx is as obtuse as Rodney Dangerfield, but the artist formerly known as the Artist Formerly Known as Prince knows how to party. He made an appearance - kind of - at Jimmy's Uptown in Harlem Tuesday night for the release - kind of - of his first live album, "One Nite Alone ... Live." Though it was an album-release party stocked with celebrities - including, for a brief time, Prince - only members of his NPG Music Club can actually get copies of the three-CD set until an undetermined wider release date, supposedly sometime this fall. Some of the live tracks blared over the sound system, and they sounded outstanding. The collection includes new material and plenty of older Prince hits, including "Nothing Compares 2 U" and "Raspberry Beret." The party was quite a scene, with music-industry insiders milling around the second-floor room and keeping an eye out for famous people on the guest list. Such people, including funk god George Clinton, "American Idol" heartthrob Justin Guarini, jazz singer Cassandra Wilson and actress Salma Hayek, spent most of their time in the roped-off VIP section. When Prince finally arrived at 12:30 Wednesday morning, he bypassed the main entrance and seemed to magically appear in the VIP section, where he held court dressed in a stylish off-white suit while his guests paid their respects. To me this only proves (once again) that Prince is a hypocrite because he does not allow drinking at paisley parties with the regular folk, but when he is throwing a party for celebries there is an open bar. For the record I do not drink so if there was drinking at Paisley I would not indulge.

On a positive note this story did say the tracks from ONA...Live! were "outstanding."
Now if I could just hear these outstanding cuts.

How does this make him a hypocrite?? Where is he supposed to throw a party, @ a friggin' nursery school?? Prince runs Paisley, he can do whatever he wants there. I don't blame him for serving non-alcoholic beverages only and I DO drink. What would happen if there was drinking @ Paisley: - people running back & forth to the bathroom, losing their spot, wanting to fight - people who can't handle theirs would get too drunk & cause problems - somebody would hurl, are YOU gonna clean it up? You're just looking to blame him for something. Put down the microscope & dance, boy... WEAK!

Well, this sounds like a typical Prince afterparty...everybody is trying to look like they're having a good time while all they're really doing is standing around gawking and waiting.
From these reports, it sounds like the only person who enjoyed Prince's party was a drunken George Clinton and Justin the American Idol boy who used the party as his personal photo op. Even Prince cut out of own his boring party after an hour. Maybe Paisley could hire some dancers or "professional minglers" and celebrity ligger types to liven up Prince's dull parties.

I don't think Paisley should sell alcohol that's a Bad idea. God forbid a Fan get's hurt or killed driving forget it. Do you think Prince wants or needs major Lawsuits? No Way. I do think however fans should have been allowed to this event. Being a member of the NPGMC doesn't have many advantages as far as I can tell. The only good thing about it is The Celebration and the Cd is great, but the service is lousy and slow. In the past everything was right away and perfect. I just wanna hear the new music that's all.

No other major artists has fans at their record release parties etc..this is part of the machine you dingbat/groupie. "Climb in my fur."

Listen, I'm not a Dingbat/Groupie if I find out other fans got invites and I didn't and I'm a truer fan then they are then I'm Never gonna go to another show again. And I'll make sure everybody I know causes a commotion about things. Why should I be dissed when some dumb,Fat Groupies and their friends get an Invite, but not myself or other Fans? If his NPGMC or his PUBLICIST Dissed me and I find out some Fat Groupies or Idiots with a Radio Show got invites then Prince you should Fire these people and I'm suspect about this Chantel Poire is she indeed Belinda Poire who I once knew? If this Dame is one in the same she could have put me on the list. Then the N.Y. fans are just Jealous of me cause I have money and they Suck. Prince should be aware of such Creepy Fans and also the people sending me Defective merchandise from NPGMC. I know it's not Prince. They are Jealous of Me. I have been having trouble with Females ever since I loved Prince they refuse to let me be with him. Some women is Always making trouble for me. It's so unfair. When I went to Glam Slam in 1990 my car was Vandalized. Fans knew I was going out of town. Then my other car was Vandalized and another and then when I went to the Celebration my house was Vandalized. So every time I go out of town with Prince functions I'm getting robbed or Vandalized. Everybody knows I wouldn't miss a gig of Prince's. I don't need to talk about radio shows and people who couldn't give me the time of day. They have nothing above me. I wanna know I wasn't dissed Intentionally! I'm so Mad at Prince not putting me on the guest list. He certainly knows me and there was no Excuse. JustinGuarani Sucks! Who the Hell is that Jack-Ass anyway? I don't give a Damn ! I'm Royally Pissed at him. [This message was edited Sun Sep 29 22:26:49 PDT 2002 by Natasha]

AND??? Gee, isn't that ODD that he would invite people to a party AND ACTUALLY MAKE DRINKS (a staple @ parties) AVAILABLE TO THEM??? How tacky would it have been to have the guests PAY for their drinks??? I suppose then you'd be complaining about that. Microscope DOWN... R E A C H I N G

Natasha, if any fans were to be let in, I don't think Prince's people would choose the "fat groopie" types to get into the party.
I think the security guards in charge of club doors look for the young, slim, or scantily clad women to serve as "decoration" or eye candy at club parties. Actually, if your name is not on the guest list for a private Prince party, you're pretty much wasting your time going the club on the chance that some Paisley publicist is going to let you in.
