Rick James makes the following allegation in his book, "Memoirs Of A Super Freak," on page 255.

Rick says, "I had read an interview in "Rolling Stone," magazine where Prince said Eddie Murphy wanted him to produce his record. I though "Uh-oh, too bad for Eddie." The last thing he needed was to end up sounding like a sterile Prince clone."

"One day Eddie called me and asked me to produce him. I asked, what happened to Prince?" Eddie "allegedly" told James he'd met with Prince and wasn't comfortable working with him.

Rick laughed and asked him what he met by that. According to Rick, Eddie allegedly said, 'Prince kept staring into his eyes during a meeting about the album.' Rick adds, 'Eddie also said that once Prince quietly stared at him while putting his fingers in his drink and then licking them. Eddie allegedly said, "Fuck it."

1st of all its just common courtesy to look someone in the eye when u r talking to them.
And 2nd of all Prince probably was stirring his drink or mixing his ice cubes with his fingers.

I can believe it. A gay person can spot trade a mile away. Prince probably spotted right away what Eddie was and wanted some of Eddie's dick. However, as feminine as Prince is, he's still not a damn dragon (which is what Eddie was caught with in later years).

Oh, I completely believe this. This was when Prince was at the height of his bizarro-mysterious behavior. Think of the Chappelle show skit, or the SNL's the Prince Show. he was wacko back then and did this shit to fuck with people.

I do recall,at the time,there were stories about Eddie wanting Prince to produce his first album.This was in 1985.Eddie was a huge Prince fan.I guess it didn't work out and Eddie asked Rick instead?
