When The Lights Go Down This is clearly one of the best Prince tunes to listen late at night. Some excellent work done here in my opinion. Love the rawness of the production and the very natural mix...feels just like I am witnessing Prince on a rehearsal.
I think this really sums up what I love in Prince: the man has a song that always fits somewhere, sometime and anywhere! Really the ARTIST! When the lights go down, yeah And it's just U 2 That's when U hear the sounds Of what true lovers do, yeah And when U feel the heat, yo Hotter than July That's when U and your baby When your baby get a ride Yeah, hey, and when your baby get a ride now [Edited 7/22/07 15:42pm]

yea whats not to like about this one? just great on every level. i especially love prince's vocals on this. i love the panting he does when he says "..ur baby get a ride..." the second time, like its almost too low for his falsetto but he eeks it out anyway. so spontaneus sounding yet completely well-crafted. and also unlike anything put out by him at the time.

This is a great jazzy tune. It is one of my favorites from The Vault Old Friends 4 Sale CD.

One of his best ever... Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.

I agree. The whole cd is underrated. The fact that this gem was sitting in the vault illustrates the wealth of Prince's brilliance. I love the percussion and smoky lyrics. Anyone know if that is P on the percussion?

He apparently got the groove worked out beforehand, but more or less improvised the vocal parts!
Wow. And yes, it's one of his best albums.. people get mislead by the title.

I agree. This song has the best intro, the stacato percussion, the seductive bass, the rolling high hats, the lazy jazzy piano; all of this great sounding music before he utters, "Another Friday night." Man, I loved this song this the first time I heard it. One of his very many best works.
