maybe buy a new SOTT set. I know there's something you can use for superficial surface scratches but if it's deep and unplayable, it might be beyond repair.

Ah... scratches... I don't even want to remember how many Prince cd's I've replaced due to overuse...
Yeah, if the scratches are deep suby I think there isn't much else you can do but buy a new one.. --»You're my favourite moment, you're my Saturday...

There are CD repair kits available at various CD sellers. It may be cheaper to find SOTT used though.

40 grit sandpaper usually works. If prince.org were to be made idiot proof, someone would just invent a better idiot.

Nah I've seen some of the new CD repair kids (there is one lime-green thing that basically spins over the surface of your disk) and it is VERY good and very effective. Don't buy the album again, you should be able to repair it.
I honestly think record companies should have a "media replacement policy" like many software and games companies do you. You've already purchased the music, so they should replace the album disks for you for a small fee to cover costs.

It's called Skip Doctor or Scratch Doctor... costs as much as the Sign O' The Times CD, but at least you'll have it to fix other CDs as well. It's lime green, you put your CD in it, spray some stuff on it, turn a crank for about a minute, and it buffs out many of the scratches. Works pretty well, and fixes DVDs & CD-ROMs too!

It's sold in the big music stores, and most likely Circuit City / Best Buy also.

I've fixed small scratches with a soft eyeglasses cloth before. You could always buy another copy. Prince might only be #2 at the bank and NEEDS YOUR HELP!
