Michael Jackson's CD Looks like Prince's!

Hi Orgers!

Earlier today, a friend of mine and I were going through my CD collection looking for an album to play. After a while, my friend brought it to my attention that Prince's "Diamonds and Pearls"(1992) CD and Michael Jackson's "Blood on the Dance Floor" (1997) CD had similar graphics on the covers.

And the lyrics/photo books with them had similar back covers. Prince's album had strings of pearls, and Michael's album had strings of jewels. (You see the same strings in Jackson's BOTDF video)

What do you guys think? Did Michael rip off the look? LOL. biggrin

Well spotted - I hadn't noticed that before.

I'm not sure if it was a rip off - most likely whoever decided what print to use wasn't aware of the very similar look on the CD for Diamonds and Pearls.

I personally think both albums were really underrated - especially in the UK.
I think the title tracks from both are two of the best recordings respectively for both MJ and Prince.

Rubbish! As a 5 track EP 'Blood' is brilliant. 'Morphine' and 'Is It Scary' are two of the best things Mike has ever done and 'Scary' is the best vocal performance of his career and more importantly it deals with how he sees himself vs the media's portrayal of him, plastic surgery, allegations and all that bollocks.

Prince: 'You got to be a Prince before you're King anyway'

Mike: 'So he's giving you Diamonds and Pears/ Well he can't do it like me'

Prince word association game on the radio in 2004:

Michael Jackson: 'Genius'
Janet Jackson: 'Genius's sister'
Chinese Democracy Starts....hopefully this year but maybe 2008....

@Gaunt:

I have the Invincible CD and I have just now put 2 and 2 together for the "diamonds and pearls" lyric. (i got the cd before I got heavy into Prince. LOL) ( I literally pulled the Incinvible lyric book to see that!)

I wonder why it seems they play off of each other in songs. That's really cute.

I still think that line from "My Name is Prince" is meant for Elvis, since he was "The King".

The title track of MJ's album featured the theme of dangling pearls. Probably inspired by Prince though yes. He had a Princely sounding song on there too, Superfly sister.

Jeez people....

Prince's disc has strings of pearls on it. Jacko's has tire tracks. The fact that they look similar is a total conicidence. Both discs have artwork that relates to their respective titles.

It does kinda look like tire tracks. biggrin (Is it weird that it;s the only cd I own that smells like a printer cartridge? All inky!)

I guess I compare alot of music and cds and stuff between Michael and Prince, because I have alot of MJ music. (I stopped counting after 40 cds) but I think this is sparking a cute debate on here. cool
