An Honest Man appreciation thread There are three versions I know of, of which the Crystal Ball version is the least and the most disappointing, if you realise Prince is certainly sitting on other, way more accomplished versions than that one.
The song is in Under THe Cherry Moon as an instrumental orchestrated piece and I love, love, love it. "With the compliments of the lady in white". But the one I really, really, really love is the one he played on an aftershow in Paris, I think, which is a vocal version of the one mentioned before, embelished with a beautiful sax solo by Eric Leeds. I want be An Honest Man I'll be your slave, just understand How much I need U, if I die We'll be together side by side I do know laughter, I do know tears But all is nothing without U near We are of one soul and if I die We'll be together side by side I want be An Honest Man I'll be your slave, just understand We are of 1 soul and if I die, if I die, if I die We'll be together side by side

That, for quite some time, was my desktop of my computer.
I love understated desktops. Often just text. Or a picture of Orion.

I think it's one of the most beautiful pieces of music he has created. When I made compilation tapes (!), years ago, I'd hook my VCR up to my stereo and record that opening piece. Wonderful, wonderful, wonderful... And I'd love to hear the original version of this track.
