Christmas in Belgium was different
Than the ones spent in L.A. That Christmas I got no presents Still me and my brother played Near the ocean makin' the snowman On his face we were makin' a smile 'Cuz just like daddy The snowman had style Snowman, snowman Another Christmas gone I got a chess game this time Bishop takes the pawn Sometimes I wanna go back where The ocean swallows the shore I could still see him smiling When my snowman is no more Winter seldom passing Where the memory doesn't sway 2 the smell of a Christmas dinner Shared the family way Everything seems so perfect That nothing would dare go wrong But tears come with the summer so long I look at my hands and I wonder Will they ever make anyone smile The way the snowman made me [Edited 7/24/07 1:42am]

This is a great song with deep lyrics and it shows that Prince really knows how to turn someone elses story into a good song just as if he´s been through the situation himself.
The song is about Marvin Gaye´s time spent in exile in Belgium back in the early 80´s when he was having serious trouble with the IRS. Recommended reading : Dave Ritz " Divided Soul", a biography of Marvin Gaye. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

I think I may have heard it once. I can't remember anything about how I felt about it. Do however like like he and Nona's "1000 Hugs & Kisses" song. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'll play it first and tell you what it is later. -Miles Davis-

I miss that kind of class and style in his more contemporary lyrics, though I really, really like Lion Of Judah...but it´s gems like this that show you again and again what he´s capable of when he´s really inspired.
