Exodus and Gold Nigga

Hey,
I'm thinking of (trying) to get these albums, which one do you prefer? Are they worth picking up? New Power Soul (which I have), is it more a Prince CD or a New Power Generation one? Cheers

NPS is the best album by prince ever. Its my fav along with Emancipation.

Goldnigga is also brilliant. 2gether is such a good song.

Exodus is ok but has so many segues and only a few real songs

Gold Nigga...If u can handle it....
Tony M is on all,or most (Lead Vocals) And the NPG on (Background)
The Standout track is the 11min (i think 11min) "Jhonny" that feat Prince on vocals...
Witch is cool as hell..but drags on after about 5 minutes.
This is a album u can kickback to..It's not a "U wanna get up and dance to album"
Over all its a decent album..but theres one thing.
The album is filled with Segue's almost betwen each song
And then theres Goldies Parade...witch is a cool track..
But theres a part,2,3...and there basicly the same, just them talking over the music

Exodus is Cool, funny, funky, wierd on some parts
This is basicly a Prince album, He's all over it
Again the album has alot of "Seuge's" Take them out and its a cool Album
This album might make u wanna get up and dancing jig

This is just my opinon..
I say go 4 Exodus 1st...others might say Different
Love Life,
Love God,
And Only Do Drugs You Need

I'd say that Exodus is easily the best New Power Generation album.
(Though it does have far too many segues).

All the NPG albums are really 'Prince' albums, in that he pretty much wrote
all the tracks on them all. However, on the first two albums he tends to just
sing backing vocals and guests on lead occasionally. The main lead singers
on the 3 NPG albums are...

Goldnigga - Tony M.
Exodus - Sonny T.
Newpower Soul - prince

.

They're both great. The general consensus is that Exodus is the best of the three.

Exodus wears it's P-Funk influences on it's sleeves - No bad thing. It's kind of like the companion album to the Gold Experience. If you like the Gold band, you'll like this - lots of highlights - Hallucination Rain is like Prince's version of 'Maggot Brain' and a precursor to 'The War', The Exodus Has Begun is a BRILLIANT album closer, Return Of The Bumpsquad, the instrumental New Power Soul - pretty much every non-segue track excellent.

Gold Nigga is Tony M. - but don't let that put you off - The sound of the LP is very much like the prince album - so if you like that live band sound with the horns and such, there's much here to enjoy - The two short instrumentals are both excellent, Deuce & A Quarter, Black MF and the previously released Call The Law are all highlights IMO.

I like NPS a lot, and I always have, but I think it's my least favourite of the 3. Very strong side-project albums. smile
