Let's face it, Prince just has to turn up and it's genius

Ok, so PLANET EARTH may not reach the top 5 (or 10, even) of Prince albums but it's still consistently Prince and miles ahead of all other takers. I guess that's why his fans are so loyal. He's Prince. The guy could sing the '9 o'clock news 'and give it merit...No one can touch him

So true. But to his fans it's ALWAYS been that way! nod I've never cared about the Superbowl or American idol, Prince made it special.

It's that pathetic, dribbly, rose-colored-sunglasses, fan-boy, you-could-fart-the-the-phone-book-and-i'd-buy-it-cos-im-so-easily-pleased, pandering attitude that makes him comfortable to sit back and float along on cruise-control without trying, and not give a fuck - it just adds to the problem.

Sure, i'm digging Planet Earth, it's not a bad album. But, like everything else he's released in the last 10+ (20?) years, it ain't the defining, stunning, focused album that an artist of his high calibar is capable of.

Personally, just once, i'd like to see him step outside his comfort zone and really challenge himself - cos frankly, that truely great, personal, gut-renching, emotionally baring album, that all the truely great artists have in them, has NOT yet been made. I'm actually starting to seriously doubt he has it in him...

Step aside from the shallow, celebrity ego-tripping for awhile and actually expose yourself and dig deep.

I'm wanting some prince plastic-ono stripped down, honest rawness. The album that shows emotional depth, that leaves the playschool, childish party lyrics behind just once and gets serious. The album that FUCKING SAYS SOMETHING!

Have you got it in you? I used to be sure you did, and that it was just around the corner... shrug

Loved the superbowl performance.

The American Idol one was cheesy. His voice just doesn't compare with some of the kids in that competition, and the performance, for Prince, was a bit meh.

That attitude is really starting to annoy me too! Some people worship the guy and it's just not healthy. The man is not perfect and certainly has made some absolute crap in his time, just like every other good artist.

Well, my coments are not necessarily untrue. Plus, drawing an analogy to "plastic ono' is perhaps not the best one to aim for. Still, I suppose it would be nice to think he actually gave a damn what you thought.

Making the leap to 'worship' is a bit strong and you obviously agree with me that its not his best. Thanks.
