Words or the voice? Hello, first time post and all that Anyway, is there anyone else out there that doesn't listen to the words being sung but only the sound of the voice being used? During my earlier years I would learn words, although that was possibly through repetition (breeds contempt more than joy) more than anything. As a guitarist I do tend to pick out those parts more than anything. This is probably in the wrong section but it was the post about the lyrics for Planet Earth that prompted me to write. One may say that I miss a lot of messages by not listening to the lyrics but I seem to be getting along fine with my own experiences and opinions

As a musician, I tend to hear the music more than the words. In fact, there are a huge number of songs which I've heard countless times, but probably don't know the lyrics. For me, a decent lyric is no great achievement on its own. It's musical arrangement and instrumentation that are more impressive. From what I HAVE picked up from Planet Earth, I feel fortunate that I don't pay too much attention to lyrics. It's certainly a better album musically than it is lyrically. Enjoy your time here ... I'm a writer who has also studied music so, for me, the lyrics are as much a part of the experience of a song as the notes. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.
