Question: Can we expect another masterpiece from Prince this decade?

Answer: Yes, all he has to do is turn his back to the JW-movement.

Not sure it's fair of you to blame your own personal disappointment with the quality of P's music on an entire religion...rolleyes

I agree with RodeoSchro here. I believe "PE" to be so good, it should be...in my personal opinion...considered a masterpiece! Of course, I'm no expert. I let my ears dictate my opinions with regards to music. And, I'd have to say, I think my ears would concur! wink

I reckon he's got another masterpiece in him this decade , the last 3 albums have been getting better and better . Musicology was a noticeable low for me ,
3121 showed he can still do great pop although his balladry ,funk and rock
needed work . Planet Earth has much more engaging ballads and edgier rock , the funk is getting better too , things are looking good for the future I'd say .

i give it another album or 2 before we hear another masterpiece. these last 3 albums seem like warm up or rebirth before he returns to form. planet earth sounds like a step in the right direction. now if he could only quit the rapping.

Planet Earth is a masterpiece to me, so yes, he can have another one. He's actually had two this decade -- TRC and Planet Earth.

Exactly, the Rainbow Children, clearly a masterpiece, not to some.

Ok... Lets look at this a little closer!

Prince is obviously a genius who is influenced by a large amount of different styles of music.... he initially combined a number of these to create his Minneapolis sound!

Now he continues to experiment... forging his music from his influences with his own twist which is as diverse as it could be!

Depending on your own musical tastes... I'm talking to you orgers now... your gonna love or dislike inddividal songs differently to the next person... just look at the reviews for Planet Earth...totaly different from person to person...

Some love the disco funk driven Chelsea Rogers... some hate it.... it's just the way it goes....

Some love the rock laden Purple Rain.... Some prefer the Psycadelic Around the World in a Day

Sign o the Times is considered to be his best album... bizarre... it's actually an eclectic combination of a variety of genres....which would please a wider audience... very much like Planet Earth!!

You can plase most of the people some of the time... but not all of the people all of the time...

Take the tracks you like from his massive body of work... and burn them to a disc... or put them on your ipod....and you would still have a collection of music no other artist could match!!!

Open your heart... open your mind to the music!!!

Personally I like a wide range of genres... and Prince makes me happy more often than not....I can count on one hand how many songs I really dislike...
We can Funk!!!!

Given that PE is at least to me the WORST Prince album ever (along with, in another style, NewPowerSoul), I fear not

I am just amazed by the weakness of the music on PE (extraordinarily simple chord progressions and arrangements, of the kind I would basically expect from Justin...Of course as usual guitar skills and a few good songs hide a little bit the thruth, which is that Prince is just washed out completely). Do no longer use the word genius (I used to use it quite a lot too...)

The Rainbow Children a masterpiece?????

Come on, its a sad result of a person letting himselve hyjack by some religious cult, because he is affraid to deal with his personal issues and the pain he has went trough.

Anyone with common sense knows The Rainbow Children is not a masterpiece: its the most depressing. creepy album by an individual who lost all sense of faith.

Funny enough, the Prince album from this decade that gets the most nods toward being a masterpiece (at least here at prince.org) is The Rainbow Children...

Riverpoet31-What you should do a poll at prince.org and see which album of the 00's people consider most worthy of the title "masterpiece".

I probably won't participate though, because I am not enough of a music snob. If you ask me, Batman is masterpiece. Get the funk up!

Yes, still he has made so much music the standard for him is higher than most musicians. Plus his music is so diverse its difficult to please everyone.
I believe P should at least try making another 3cd set and make it very diverse sounding, Unlike Emancipation that had the general same production.

Maybe P is getting in more studio time these days while playing a bunch of shows in one spot??
