Bootleg/For The Sex Of It

I found this, bought it, even though I was broke. Very revealing of Prince's creative process, work ethic and his ability as a bandleader. Wendy and Lisa are on a couple of the tracks and it there is evidence of some of the dissension that eventually broke them apart. Prince sounds like a munchkin at some points, dropping the mysterious deep voice we hear at speeches. Hardly recognizable. For the most part the bands sound like kids playing, bickering and trying to work together. Several of these songs are fantastic but never widely released. Also, with all the talk on the boards lately, of how Prince was not an originator, I find it very interesting that the dance music he was experimenting with on this cd and on some of his later albums, seemed to provide a blueprint for techno (not that that's a compliment, I hate techno) in terms of sound use, rhythm and image.

Yeah, It's pretty funky, I've not heard the studio version, this is a rehearsal with a classical opening. the thing I love about Prince is that he has such a huge body of work that if I choose to, I can really find a gem like this somewhere. He's got a ton of stuff I've never heard, and I consider myself quite a fan.

That sounds correct, The classical opening was something he probably wouldn't have used a couple years before and Boni Boyer's voice is there. Love or Money is there too, as well as Paisley Park, Temptation, An Honest Man. Brown Mark was playing some great bass on these tracks, suited Princes music to a T in that era.

didnt he give it to Kid Creole?

Good song love the Prince version.
Fuck the funk - it's time to ditch the worn-out Vegas horns fills, pick up the geee-tar and finally ROCK THE MUTHA-FUCKER!! He hinted at this on Chaos, now it's time to step up and fully DELIVER!!

Well there is a studio version but there is also an outake of Prince rehearsing The Sex Of It with his band.He has everyone get a pen and he is reading the lyrics of the song out to them.About 43 minutes of everyone learning the song. Its a fascinating process to hear.
The same boot also has him doing the same with Baby Go-Go.

Yes, it's the process that I find almost as interesting as the music and am left wondering who brought what parts to the music.

I think I only have the Kid Creole and the Prince version of his where its finished. I don't think I have any long rehearsal parts on the one i've heard/have access to.
"Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.
