Many who think of it as a meandering incohesive song. IMO, even though it is long and goes all over the place there is a lot of genius in the song many just don't seem to get. For me it's the mere fact that it's 2 songs in one and to be able to pull that off is a feat in itself. I think others have done something similar...but I haven't heard any that I know of. It's probably one of songs that I consider to be made during his creative peak.

Well descriebd - we need to also remember the climate within which this was created - generally the music industry was obsessed with stadium artists deliveringg to the lowest common denominator and songs like this were the opposite to all of that (even though it wasnt formally released), it was the essence of what was great about Prince and W&L working together demonstrated how brave a musician he was after the success of he previous years.
