So, he's releasing crap... so what? Let's take it easy.

Lots of us who r disappointed by the Musicology/3121/Planet Earth trilogy (let's hope it's only a trilogy) r making posts saying "WTF is he doin'?"

Well, he's recording & releasing crap (at least by his own standards, because his crap is still better than a lot of mainstream artists' best music)... SO B IT!

Prince has disappointed his fans b4. When "Grafitti Bridge" was released everybody was sayin' "Prince is finished", when "Carmen Electra" & "Child Of the Sun" came out everybody was like "how can he release such shit?", when "Newpower Soul" came out all the "pop-rock" fans didn't understand the funk of it & said "that's crap", etc...

Fact is that no matter how disappointing Prince can b sometimes, he always come back with a vengeance. Everytime people said he was finished he eventually found a new way 2 challenge his listeners.

So let's b patient. In a year or 2 Prince is probably gonna release a killer album, or possibly 8 or 10 new albums in one year, as he did in 1998 or 2001.

i remember when musicology came out - a buddy of mine said he liked it ... thought it was a good mix ... and i rolled my eyes and said ... not sure i like it ...

then- i liked 3121 ... and this new album ... i think i like better . I love the "beatles influence" - and i think it is well-done ... altho i have not had a chance to really sit down and critique it ... the way i have done in the past (you know - sit down , take it all in ... whether in the car ... or at home ... ) ... lets see what rolling stone and other big reviewers think ... confused wink

I was confused at first, but now I understand. smile
God doesn't just tells me how much he "LOVE's" me, God shows me how much he "LOVE's" me. Both telling and showing "LOVE" means to "LOVE". They go hand in hand. You can't have one with out the other. Something is spoken, then followed by an action. That is

Objectively, Musicology, 3121 & Planet Earth are good albums (as every album ever released by Prince.) Now, compared 2 Prince at his best, they're really un-innovative, un-daring albums. Just compare them 2 ur favorite Prince albums & u'll see what i mean.

But as u know my point wasn't 2 talk shit about PE or i'd have posted in the PE thread. I was 2 b patient bacause i'm tired of people sayin' that Prince ain't what he used 2. He is & he has proved it over & over. it's just that sometimes, well... he gets lazy lol

I think the general Response to Planet Earth amongst the fans has been positive.

Also a lot of Fans felt Musicology and 3121 were good albums and both of those albums were pretty well received by the critics.

The fact is to most Prince isn't releasing crap.

For me Planet Earth is a great album, It really has grown on me, 10 great tracks.

well i think most fans have enjoyed the last 3 albums...personally i prefer his commercial stuff to his rainbow children/news stuff...although i admire him for doing it...he cant keep all his fans happy because he is so diverse but if you wait long enough...he will come up with something that you will enjoy....i think planet earth is a very good prince album...his best since the gold experience 12 years ago so its not crap to me.....i also enjoyed 3121 and musicology was a bit boring but served its purpose of getting him back into the spotlight...
.
its all about personnel taste but he is about to enjoy his first real hit in years in the us future baby mama which is a class r&b ballad imo so the album should do well for him...

I'm getting the feeling that I'm one of the few who is really enjoying this
new Prince...
Since the release of ONA..Live,Musicology(and joining the Org) I've been
having a great time in Prince world!!

After the commercial flop Rave.. and TRC I thought Prince was really going underground and would
never make a pop/rock-orientated album again.I would still buy
his albums anyway.

Everything that has happened since 2002,including DVD-releases of PR
and D&P,Ultimate, performances like Grammy's,Superbowl and the trilogy(I love 3121) is something I never expected.

The only dark period imo is '97-2000,4 years ...not bad huh??

You are RIGHT ON. I really was worried Prince turned to crap after NPS came out -- then we were hit w/ the brilliant era of the Chocolate Invasion, 2045 radical man, slaughterhoues, funk. I'm worried again....but you're right -- once he stops thinking this is what people wanna hear, we'll be happy.

'Crap'

What a lazy word to use when describing music that either doesn't appeal to you or you feel is un-inspired.

I have only heard one song on Planet Earth, so I can't comment on it, but I liked 3121. But,after watching the Superbowl show and attending the 3 shows in Mini 2 weeks ago, My thoughts were, why doesn't he release and play the songs on a cd like the Superbowl or the aftershow at 1st Ave or any of the aftershows. The song about salt and pepper was absoulutely fabulous at first Ave.That show was historical good.If he can blow your mind on stage, it seems like he could do the same on a cd, I think that is why a lot of fans come off being disappointed with some cds Prince has released.

Look. Prince is past his best. Its not a ground breaking album. Its just "ok". Nothing special.

Someone said that Prince taking a few years out to travel and "study" and not work on music was a good idea.

i agree. Prince is simply laying down the first thing that comes into his head. He's not really working on his albums and spending an amazing amaount of time touching it up anymore because he doesnt have to.

If you think the album is brilliant or good, then yeay for you.But i just cant see what all the fuss is about. Its a basic, cheesy album, except for the title track, which shouldnt be on there, as I have already said it stands out like a sore thumb.

PS- why is nobody suggesting to lock the thread? where are all the mod wanabees?!

Well, I am one of Prince's funk fans and have been since 1979. I'm the one that was pissed when pop radio picked Prince up in 1982. I can tell you, the "New Power Shit" album was mostly shit hop and ain't a damn thing funky about shit hop.

Besides the obvious ... is there any albums we ALL agree on?

There is a lot of folks who love LoveSexy...I can't stand it...maybe a song or two but I don't like (could be because I hate the 1 track feature). I thought New Power Soul was good (not his best work, maybe that is why is was listed under New Power Generation and not Prince). I love Musicology but there were a lot of folks calling that "crap." If Prince came out with Purple Rain part 2 we would trip....He can only do so much...
