These tracks are just magical. They have such an electric sound to them that prince never did before or has since. Is it because the tracks that were recorded at the "warehouse?" why has he never tried to replicate that sound? Fear?

I mean he has no trouble doing the upteenth remake of "Do me baby" or "Cream" but that electric energy that is just jumping off those Purple Rain tracks is quite startling compared to what came after.

I always wrote it off too recording in digital v. analog but now i think its a conscious avoidance.

It's amazing. As is the bootleg "electric intercourse", which is also from that time.
He should have stuck with it a while, or at least returned to it.

"Around the world in a day" is also almost an unbeatable album, with that 1 flaw being "Temptation".
ATWIAD is quite often dissed here, but the songs are excellent. It was b4 Rap/shithop music came along and left princes' music permanently flawed.

He should have gone back 2 that production after the Batman soundtrack, ideally getting back together with Wendy & lisa too.
He should have given them a better deal.
The first 3 albums from the girls were first rate.

Electric Intercourse is exactly what Im taking about. I found that song a couple of years back and was transported to another world. Almost sounds like a totally different artist.

Like I said, I chalked it up to live recording, recording technology or just nostalgia but now Im think there is a total difference in song composition and production philosophy. He doesnt didnt make music like that anymore by choice.

We've seen just hints of it like in Joy in Repetition, bits of Gold, the keys in Lolita or the ending of Resolution but not the full on real deal.

to me, i think it's in the instruments he chose,
the arrangements, and the final production/mix
(plus, let's not forget the "live" energy of several of these songs)

he really had an ear for what sounded great back then

imnnot sure if u guys have seen "Prince and the Revolution Live" but is truely amazing. it was right around the time of Purple Rain, and these were the times he was raw. when he was raw he just went for it, and i loved that about him, right now he seems to be really polished. now im only 14 and may not really no what im talkin about, but by the older concerts iv seen, it seemed like he wanted it alot more..for example "lovesexy tour" "nude tour" "prince revolution live" and so on. he was great back then. he jammed purple rain 4 20 min on revolution live. check it out.
