Pop Life is a wonderful song because the lyrics don't really run too deep but the message is very profound.. It seems so light and fun u can put it on and just lose urself but if u take the time and listen it really speaks to our culture and human tendencies.. | |

A very nice song. Not a big chart hit back then. But the simple directness of the composition, the message in the lyrics, the piano, funky bass and background vocals still works like magic.
Personally i also dig the "John Lennon"-like effect on the vocals. It makes me think again (after listening to Planet Earth also) that i would love to hear a new album on which Prince, Wendy and Lisa are writing and recording all the songs together.  | |

Pop Life was the first Prince song I ever purchased and to this day is my favorite Prince song...funny that the same criteria people use to praise Pop Life is the same criteria people use to put down Resolution.
Before Pop Life...I probably was still taping Prince songs off of radio broadcasts with an old cassette recorder, shushing anyone that would make noise while the radio was playing the song. | |
