Well of course..but I don´t think he had that song in mind while writing this...it´s too obvious, many people have sampled that trademark beat and bassline in the past ten years..for instance Biggie with Total or Murder Inc.
It´s just that little beat and bass...the whole Debarge song is different. It´s more of a nod to 90´s club classics, a bit of that Biggie...One More Time flavor than actually sampling Debarge. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?" | |

Well, i listen "Guitar" for the first time some days ago and that riff is at least 75% equal to U2's "I Will Follow", only in the last quarter of the riff the notes run away a bit from the "I Will Follow" guitar.
I'm not the first one to think that. But probably there will be no problem to Prince because Bono and the guys are fans of him  | |

It's pretty similar sounding, but definitely different notes. Unfortunately, notes that aren't as catchy. | |
