ONA Listening Party in NYC Flops

"I waited all night long and now he just sits in the corner and talks on his cellphone?" asked one young woman. "I used to be a fan, like 10 years ago, but this is dumb. And I gotta catch a train home, I live on eastern Long Island." She craned her neck for another look, then split.

The only dumb thing in here is waiting for hours just to see someone. Guess she got what she deserved.

Yes the facts in this article aren't totally straight. NPGMC members werent the only ones allowed to the concerts this past spring, they just had first shot at the tickets. Prince has gotten a bit closer to his diehard fans by allowing them to come to the rehersals and chatting with them briefly. And the tickets, at least in my area, were $125, not $150 as posted.

That aside, you either respect your fans or you dont. This does not sound like someone who respects his fans, he just merely wants their money. How hard is it to show up to your own party on time and smile, say hi, and thank people?

Until I saw this article I never knew the concerts were limited to NPGMC members only. interesting

someone please explain:

"I waited all night long..." followed by "I used to be a fan, like 10 years ago..."

if you aren't a fan why are you waiting for hours to see him? even more so, why are you mad that you didn't get any special treatment?

I'll never understand these people who think that because they spent some money they deserve to be his friend...we all need to realize that we have a relationship with his MUSIC...not HIM. peace.

I think the point to be made here is that this was a listening party coordinated by Prince, NOT the recording industry. Also, this wasn't a concert.

People were expecting to see him since it was HIS listening party and it seems the people were invited/picked.

So...Prince throws a listening party, invites the press, fills the room with a biased-towards-him crowd, and then bores everybody by sitting on a couch and talks on a cell phone.

Try that at the next party YOU throw and see the kind of reviews you get.

I liked the part about the American Idol dork who acted all uppity. HAH HAH!

You are right on here, but good luck tryina convince some of these people... Throw a damn party and then act like an ass, whatever. Just cos he makes good music doesn't mean he has the right to constantly disrespect people...

A gracious host would have showed up at a respectable time. It's not right to make people wait 4 hours for you. He also could have mingled a little with the guests and thanked them for coming.

Prince is a big star, but big stars still need to have manners and social grace.

Well, where was Mani then? When the husband is a social idiot, it's up to the wife to be gracious and polite.

Wait a minute.
If this is a listening, aren't people really there to listen to the CD. What does it matter if Prince is sitting in the corner? I'd be jamming to the live CD. If it sounds as half as good as 1+1+1=3 live, it had to be jamming. It sounds like once again people were expecting a performance, when none was announced or promised. sigh

A "listening party" is for listening. I don't even know why P showed up @ that late hour, but since he did what did people there expect? Did they want him to serve them drinks & carry a food tray around? He's heard the album already. Who goes to a listening party anyway?

Oh, Mani's pregnant? Is that so? That's pretty big "news". Who's your inside source who entrusted you with this bit of personal information? From where did you receive this knowledge? Are you a close friend of Mani or Prince's? Have you personally recently seen Mani walking around with a big pregnant belly? Please do enlighten us as to where you learned of Mani's impending motherhood.

You flippantly fling this statement out regarding Mani being pregnant; please now present one bit of hard evidence to back it up.

Excuse me for calling you on your "joke", but I am so sick and tired of people spouting off about things that they, in reality, do NOT know anything about, and making statements that could easily turn into big stupid rumors that can potentially take on a life of its own. It appears to me you obviously have little respect whatsoever for Prince (an artist you claim to respect and whom you often defend) or his personal life, considering that it doesn't bother you to make statements like your above one regarding Mani. In my opinion, you are being no better than these reporters who can't get their information straight, and who perpetrate rumors and gossip about Prince by blathering out whatever misinformation they feel like with no regard to pesky things called FACTS.

I don't know if your remark about Mani was an attempt at being cute or funny. But I've had about enough of "fans" who begin idiotic rumors about Prince's personal life but yet are completely unable to back up or prove what they say.

Here's some advice - if you truly respect and admire someone, don't start rumors about them or their personal life. They don't appreciate it, and it only makes you look like a fool.

this really goes beyond just being a "listening party" those are thrown by some lil wrecka stow people with some freebies by the band/label...

This was a media event orchestrated by Prince and his people. When stars act like asses at a media event they throw, they get what they deserve-blasted by the media.

When P had the TRC party last fall, he didn't play and only did a brief walk thru and no-one complained cos that was little ol' Paisley gig... this New York event was set-up to be something more...

whatevs, it's not surprising, it's just too bad that after how far he came with his social skills for Emancipation promotion that he's slid right back to being the pain that we all know, and for some reason love...

Prince really should have done more at this event. If he cares about promoting this album, he needs to be a salesman and play the role. He doesn't owe anybody anything...but if your gonna play the role of preacher (TRC), he should be more cordial.

Any real Prince fan knows that he very rarely shows up for anything (except for a scheduled concert in a public forum) on time. Midnight seems to be his bewitching hour. Know Prince - no let down.

Come on, everything in this article is standard Prince behavior, for better or worse.

And the only thing shocking (which someone already mentioned) at this party was the soon-to-be-too-obscure-for-even-a-Trivial-Pursuit-question loser from American Idol turning down interviews. Jesus, how delusional can you be? Prince may be an egomaniac but at least he was relevant once (:

Yep, you got that right. Prince could have gotten good reviews by showing some good will towards the media that he invited to the party. You don't invite the media to your party and then be rude to them. The media will get payback for being treated rude by writing bad reviews and making negative remarks.

I think the press wants to be nice to Prince, but he treats them badly, hence the bad reviews and negative remarks in their reports. It's a vicious circle that keeps going 'round and round.

Really can I tell ya I feel very Offended when a Loser from American Idol gets an Invite yet myself as a fan who's been loyal since age 4 gets dissed by him and the NPGMC. And what about his fans? Who pay for their membership and then what about the ones who are still fans but didn't join? Well, it's just Discrimination. Pure and Simple Discrimination. Prince is Guilty of Discrimination,Racism and Biggotry and I don't like his Attitude ! I would think he'd be less of a SNOB! Especially to his Fans. I absolutely Hate that. It's nowhere COOL! I would Hope he gets over his Damn Self already cause the Days of Purple Rain are Over and I've been trying to be nice, but still who does he think he is to Dis Me? I don't like it 1 f...ing bit! Mani f...U! His name should be PRICK not PRINCE! Bastard and he KNOWS he is! Apologize my Ass now Kiss it! What is Prick's Main problem? God only KNOWS and maybe he Doesn't! Does Prince even know what is Problem is and if he does can he Possibly tell us? I Love him,but Boy am I pissed at him. He acts like a Slob . Pure and Simple a Classless Slob! Get some manners already learn how to talk and act to your fans. Stop taking Us for Granted and Treating Us like Inferior 2nd class citizens already. Get Over Yourself. Get Wild and stop acting like an OLD FART! Stop Judging and Stop saying I'm 44 and I can't do this or that or wear this or that. It's OLD! OLD!!! Stop talking bout the Vault either Release it or Burn the stuff cause it's OLD News Already...OLD! OLD! News... STOP TEASING ALREADY IT'S OLD,OLD,OLD! Get Over IT! That's it my OPINION...Prince please give me some MEAT for my POTATOES and do me a Favor and Get Wild!
