I had every good intention to wait to hear the cd on Tuesday. However, when I saw that MSN had it streaming I did give in and listen to it one time. I'm glad it wasn't the apple and I am not Eve. I had read all of the lyrics many times before listening to the cd and this song and I could also feel that this would be a song that I would gravitate to. It's beautiful, heartfelt and very emotional. It is another masterpiece to behold! I can not wait until Tuesday to be able to purchase this cd and listen to it over and over again. would have been better if he'd used real drums; that 6/8 part sounds like a clicktrack to me... also don't like the synth flute

So who's playing horns on here? They sound as good as I remember back when Eric and Atlanta were blowing them. "Why'd I waste my kisses on you baby?" R.I.P. Prince You've finally found your way back home. Well Done.

Best song on the album and one of his best in years. Maybe a top 40 Prince song. No hard feelings.

babynoz said: Very romantic and sultry lyrics with a SWEET horn accompaniment, stellar piano and a flawless vocal delivery by Prince...I'm all syrupy,
Best ol'skool slow drag song I've heard in awhile. I agree babynoz...it's very sultry and romantic...takes me back to the sounds of Smokey Robinson/Stylistics/Delfonics/Blue Magic/Dells....his falsetto voice is excellent and captivating...keeping the "sexy" ballads alive like back in the days of the early R&B groups and the blue/green/red/yellow light basement parties.. Definitely ready to purchase this album on 7/24. I wonder if they'll sell it on the 3121.com site or will we be able to download it..hopefully. [Edited 7/23/07 19:57pm]

It took me a few listens to appreciate SHOE. I love it now. Prince sounds so vulnerable and sincere.
It reminds me of Smokey Robinson and the Miracle's "Ooo, Baby Baby". Well done Prince. [Edited 7/22/07 12:18pm]

The more I listen to this song..the more I am convinced this is the BEST song on the album. This is one amazing song! Very different from what he has been doing lately..if Miles Davis was alive I would have loved to hear this song with his added touch (K I'm fantasing that this could have been one of the their little secret prodjects!)...what a gem of a song...I really like the jumpin' pumpin' Prince dance tracks the most...but a song like this is so appreciated because he has not done anything like this in quite a while.

I was thinking the same exact thing. I think the trumpeter is Christan Scott and I'm almost certain that he'd list Miles as a significant influence. So in some small way, perhaps in fragments only, Miles is still with us. http://www.christianscott.net/ == Adding these: A New Orleans native, Scott also has an uncanny ability to juxtapose benchmark jazz styles, nearly all of which he no doubt absorbed through prolonged exposure to Miles Davis: fusion, funk, postbop, modal, smooth. -- Lloyd Sachs While Scott lists all the great jazz trumpeters—Armstrong, Roy Eldridge, Dizzy Gillespie, Freddie Hubbard—as influences, he singles out Miles Davis as his “main guy.” “Miles started out a bopper, but one day he decided to take a different direction and not be so flashy in his playing,” Scott says. “He decided to edit himself, to feel what he was thinking. What he doesn’t play is just as great as what he does play. I saw a video recently of him playing, and you could see in his face that he was editing each note he played.” -- from Concord Music Group http://www.concordmusicgr...ian-Scott/ ==Edited to include a couple of quotes == [Edited 7/24/07 12:14pm]

Shame on you, this is by far my favorite track on PE. "A united state of mind will never be divided
The real definition of unity is 1 People can slam their door, disagree and fight it But how U gonna love the Father but not love the Son? United States of Division"

Odd production. An attempt to re-create an old record that doesn't totally work--someone else pointed out the mixing of analog & digital that this song shouldn't have.
The song itself is nice but I don't like him slowing down the album so soon. It's got more attention to detail than some of the more recent songs in the style, like Satisfied. But being in the same tradition I'm not too excited to hear it again, even though it's really nice, with the piano at the end. My Legacy

A very different song for Prince.
It reminds me of some of Stephn Sondheim's music. It makes me think of NYC. I could imagine Prince writing this song in some hotel in New York. Having all the modern communication technology at his disposal and still yearning for the simplest and hardest to get communication possible, real human interaction. Prince sounds so open and vunerable on this track. It may be the best track on the album.

This is the best slow jam Prince has done in years. It has a nice "spacey" feel to it that I love. It reminds me a whole lot of Rick James' "Spacey Love". Andy is a four letter word.

i really like this one ..whoever the horn soloist is (thanks P 4 not including who's playing on whatever tracks) channeling Miles very nice
and renato's playing is always a nice touch man, he has such an amazing body of music that it's sad to see him constrict it down to the basics. he's too talented for the lineup he's doing. estelle 81
