It's not necessarilly about the money though. Everyone knows when it comes to his music, Prince is a control freak. Releasing music that he hasn't approved is gonna tick him off.

my question is, would there have been plans for the live ONA box set (what a cop out) if freemyheart hadent posted those songs?

No, the case here is, Prince told Matt to take the live tracks off his website. Instead of complying, Matt got arrogant and stupid, basically challenging (sic?) Prince's request (as if it were Matt's music, not PRince's). So now he's about to pay the consequences. It's that simple.

freemyheart.com basically challenged Prince to sue him so whats the big surprise? This attitude of "I'm right & just because the law is on your side doesn't make you right" attitude was bound to bring this result. freemyheart.com drew a line in the sand & dared Prince to step over it. He did & now people want to yell foul. Grow up.

well, the owner of freemyheart.com was the one who said he wouldn't stop posting mp3s unless there was a lawsuit. So it's his own fault. He literally asked for it! It's not like he didn't get a bunch of warnings about it. Remember that big rant he posted online that he wouldn't stop anything unless it went to court? There you go! He made his own bed. Don't act like Prince is the bad guy here, freemyheart had plenty of chances to stop! Maybe you guys don't realize how serious a crime bootlegging is. (and distributing one for free is just as bad as selling it because people still end up with something they shouldn't have). Bootlegging carries a $150,000 fine in many places.

i don't know what songs he had available for download, though if he had recent stuff such as 'xenophobia' i really don't have much sympathy with this guy.especially seeing as they are about to be released officially.

I strongly feel Prince should allow older Bootlegs to fly. It's not as if he's ever going to release older shows officially is it?.

First of all, This is not a bootlegging issue. No one made any money off this.
2nd of all, Whats the point of listening to music if you can't share its beauty with others??
Have we forgotten what music means to us??

Prince has got every right to sue. Its his music and for reasons known to him alone, has not released it.

At the end of the day, imagine if you were, say, writing a book and someone hacked into your PC and stole it, then published it on the internet. Youd be mightily fucked off no doubt! Whether that hacker was profitting from it or not.

There is always the argument that whether you have a boot copy of something or not, you would still go and buy the official release. Perhaps that is true. But, like your metaphorical book, it will have been 'read' already and the buzz surrounding the official release would be somewhat tamed.

Now that is a good analogy.
This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Who knows - shouldn't that be Prince's choice?
Bootlegs take that choice away from him.

I feel that Prince has the right to sue, but why not sit down with mathew and listen to his point of view. Prince isn't going to have many fans left that's for sure. When he went on his last suing frenzy he lost a lot of fans.

Prince is probaly pissed because he wants to release his first live album, and it's already been released. If prince wants to sue all the sites that offer his music, he's going to be in court for a looong time. He talks about free music, with the internet he'll be suing people for the rest of his life.

Sorry Prince I love ya, but suing your fans is a bit much.
Just like at the concert I saw with you preaching: FREE THE MUSIC!!! You should make up your mind, some of us are confused.

hmm

u know what else?

the fact that m "challenged" p the way he did is a bit of a ballsy move...

...right on. cuz i dunno about ya'll, but nobody else would really have the guts/cojones/balls 2 basically come up 2 the brotha and go, "u wanna sue me? well c'mon then, let's cha-cha!" instead of curlin up one's tail between one's legs and scamperin away.

maybe, just maybe, if folks started takin heed 2 this example and puttin it 2 work in a different manner, p will hear where folks are comin from.

if there's anything that p has taught us via his songs and what-not, is 2 never back down.

No money isn't the issue.
The issue is respect. freemyheart.com has no respect for Prince's wishes. They take an illegal recording & offer it as a free recording. Prince says stop. freemyheart says fuck you - we know better than you. We don't respect your rights as an musician therefore we can disrespect you. Oh yeah & we do this out of love for you & your music. No respect but there is love.

The people that are saying Prince is overreacting are the same ones who'd follow him to the ends of the earth like lemmings & would agree with him if he held court on this issue at a soundcheck. In his presence I've seen even the most rightous people with views to share swallow them & bob their head to anything the man says or does.

Why should freemyheart.com stop posting just because they were asked by Prince?

Prince puts the DICK in dictatorship.

I do hope the courts decide in favor of the site, and Prince can FINALLY move past all this nonsense.
