Is PE his best cd since... a) Lovesexy
b) Diamonds and pearls c) Gold experience d) Rainbow children e) Musicology f) 3121 ? As for me, a) is the right answer. Don't you feel this is the first album after many many years (1988), that you, or anybody else, put on the stereo and at he first listen tell: "Oh, this is Prince!". I mean, the sound is so unmistakable, only P sounds like that. I really missed this feeling in the past years, tough some of the albums were reallly good, but a little bit incohesive or disjonted compared 2 PE. Some friends listened 2 Future Baby Mama, Guitar, The One U Wanna C, and all of them were keen 2 listen 2 the rest of the album. So i gave them another little pill: Chelsea Rodgers! They went crazy, nobody could stop moving... the party has just began... In God we trust.

Is also true that if PE was realeased in 1988, everybody would use the word masterpiece and if Lovesexy was realeased in 2007, everybody would say: "yeah, a pretty good album, but in the 80's Prince was better"!
Now, there's this stereotype that Prince can't reach the 80's peak, but as for me is just a prejudice. In God we trust.

I've always wondered why Europeans seem to hold Lovesexy is such high regard. Here it was considered quite a step back after SOTT. Personally, I think it was the last truly cohesive album he made but it suffered from a some bad recording and production decisions that made it sound a bit plastic. For some fans Lovesexy was the beginning of the end of Prince's genius phase. That said, in retrospect, its sounds way more organic and natural that anything he's put out since.
PE just doesnt even come close. I'd put it slightly better than Rave, 3121 & Musicology. I have respect for TRC musically but Im so turned off by his attitude during that time period that I cant really judge it fairly. This one falls under Emancipation way ahead of NPS.

Consider that here in Europe Lovesexy has been a very succesful album, in the summer of 88 it was the best selled album in England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain and so on. Instead in the USA the sales were quite disappointing. The tour also in Europe was a huge success, and the show was live broadcasted by the italian television. I'm quite sure that in 1988 P success in Europe reached his peak. So, everybody knows this cd, i guess is overall the most popular ever in Europe. In God we trust.

Why does this topic keep coming up everytime he releases an album? Why not just say it is a good cd or bad cd. Why compare it to any of his other albums? **--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••--**--••**--••-

Now, there's this stereotype that Prince can't reach the 80's peak, but as for me is just a prejudice. what a ridiculous position with no shred of evidence to back it up, and nothing more than an attempt to rationalize the lack of good music Prince has put out in years. this message brought to you by logic.

None of the above. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

d for me.
i always persuade myself into liking albums. That's what I did with Musicology and 3121. But they're nothing compared to the 'artistic' albums. Planet Earth is more like TRC, and it's my kind of thing! Even like All the Midnights. Prince is real hippie on this one. Mr Goodnight I like least. 555-4444 you're on coffee talk.

Guitar I totally adore and its the first time in years that I am really looking forward to playing the whole thing in the car. To be honest the R&B rubbish was a bit embarrassing so it's good to hear him sound like himself - a bit like Bowie singin like a londonner (Little wonder) again after years of that deep american accent he put on (Dancing in the streets!)
