NPS should count and is probably the worst. The Vault and Crystal Ball and The Hits shouldn't be considered real albums. And Black album is 80s.

so ranking would go from worst to best:

NPS
Rave
Come/C&D
Symbol/GB (cant decide)
D&P
Truth
Emancipation
Gold

Emancipation are youu cats high?
the only problem with emancipation is he released too many songs
but Emancipation was his best material since SOTT

why is this even a thread
everybody knows its Chaos & Disorder, than NPS
NPS is bad, but Wasted Kisses, Come On and The One , redeem the album

'NPS' is the most underrated and wrongly bashed album he's ever done.

'C&D' and 'Rave' I'll go along with.

'Crystal Ball' is terrific. 'Emancipation' is uneven, but has enough there for everyone. 'Come' is a grower. 'Gold' and 'Symbol' are borderline classics. 'The Truth' is sort of driven by personal taste, and is interesting in its own right just for being "acoustic". 'The Black Album' is technically earlier as are "The Hits", so they don't even count in my eyes. 'Graffiti Bridge' would have made a great single album.

Rave is easily his worst in the 90's. It just sounds like a Santana-like attempt to revive his career and popularity. Only Santana pulled it off extremely well with Supernatural, while Rave is just a mess.

I listened to C&D the other night and I like it more than I remember. There are some bad joints on there, but overall, I like the angry vibe of it. Come is a favorite of mine, so I don't get why some don't like it.

I get why Emancipation gets a bad rap, but I think that there's enough in that set so that anyone could compile their own 1 CD version of it and have a great album. I think I should do just that.

The Best:
Graffiti Bridge
Come
The Black Album
prince
Diamonds & Pearls
The Gold Experience
Crystal Ball

The rest I only listen to occasionally and then only because I feel guilty about not giving them a chance razz
IMO The Black Album has to be counted. Even though we all had it years before, it wasn't an official copy. The copyright on the disc says 1994 and it doesn't count as a "hits" or "best of" because it was all officially unreleased - the same as Crystal Ball.
The Hits can't be counted - but the 4 unreleased songs on it are great!

Rave & NPS are equally bad, I think. They stink in different ways, though.

if "come on", "the one", "wasted kisses" and (ok, arguably) "mad sex" weren't on NPS, i'd agree with you.

even the stuff i want to like on rave, i can't - i think even the good songs on rave are ruined by painful production. at least NPS sounds good now and then.

NPS - wtf is this sh*t Prince? You only get a pass for "The One"

Chaos & Disorder - I think he intended for that to be bad though.

You say I like Prince too much? confuse

Rave is o.k. The songs are catchy, poppy, and mainstream. It's like Diamonds and Pearls, but not as desperate. If weren't for the production and the fact that the album sounds sort of melancholy, I'd really like Rave.

New Power Soul is what it is--a band party album. I dislike almost every track but "Come On" and "The One" albiet there's parts of songs I don't like that have surprises, but not many.

Overall, I though his 90s albums had brilliance sprinkled throughout them. I j

His best albums... as agreed by the majority are

1 The Gold Experience
2 Diamonds and Pearls
3 The Love Symbol
4 Come
5 Emancipation

The truth gets an honourable mention...

The rest of the decade i.e. NPS, Rave suck.

ooh i forgot The Vault... which was really good
