Why wasnt She's Always in My Hair on ATWIAD?

Such a great tune and fit the style of the album so well. Vry strange.

It didn't fit the album at all. That album was very "artsy" and "She's Always In My Hair" did fit better as a b-side.

It maybe could have switched places with 'America'. It would have been a far better choice as an a-side than 'America' was.

I've always thought it would fit well in between Condition of the Heart and Rasberry Beret.. Would make it a bit lopsided though on that side with the old vinyl format..

oh well... hmm

Knowing P, he wrote and recorded this song after AWIAD was complete. It wouldn't surprise me at all.

fuck that. anything's better than The Ladder. and i'd much rather have this on the album that Tamborine.

I think this is the likely reason. It has nothing to do with pacing of the record, etc, he just hadn't written and recorded it prior to the album being mastered, etc.
No hard feelings.

i don't think that's the case. IIRC, this was recorded along with the rest of the album on the Purple Rain tour. it may have actually been one of the first songs completed after the recording of PR was complete.

don't remember for sure, though. someone with the Vault pipe up!

I guess that's possible but even if it was recorded during the rest of the album, I'd guess Prince had no clue the song would become so popular and there was no master plan as to why it was left off the album.
No hard feelings.

Source: DMSR (Didn't have The Vault to hand)....

Recorded 30/12/83, same day as Erotic City, and in the middle of recording the stuff for The Time and Apollonia 6/Sheila E.

So it could've even made Purple Rain if Prince wanted (When Doves Cry, recorded March '84), never mind ATWIAD.

I think sometimes tracks don't fit certain projects in Prince's mind, even if we think said song might be a killer track.

Holy fuck!!! eek
30/12 should be an international fucking holiday!! 2 of the most killer tracks ever, recorded same day!! - and both reduced to b-sides!!
eek
Anyone else in the history of the world that would dare dream of recording two such legendary songs, would walk away from the studio that day saying "i am a mutha-fuckin legend! - vanity and susanah r both swallowing 2nite!!" but prince goes "blahh, b-sides, waste of a day"
Damn, that 82-88 6 (released) albums period is simply unequalled - its sits comfortably right there next to The Beatles 65-70 6-album Rubber Soul-Let It Be period as a "consider this fucking decade OWNED, nobody else comes close!" statement - no 2 other musical acts have so completely OWNED a decade and period of time musically as these two legends.
I bow down
bow

"She's Always In My Hair" is a killer/classic track! It's without a doubt one of my favorite P tracks...."17 Days" has the same type of vibe and I love that one too. One of my favorite P "albums" to listen to is disc 3 of "The Hits/The B-Sides" cuz it has so many incredible B-Sides on one disc, including "Erotic City," "Feel U Up," "Power Fantastic," etc....

I generally agree with that, but ATWIAD is so hit-or-miss and very eclectic already. There aren't a lot of songs he was working on at the time that *wouldn't* fit that album.

Slamin' song one of my top favorites but I heard that "She's Always In My Hair" it wasn't a general enough statement to be placed on an album.
Some people think I'm kinda cute
But that don't compute when it comes 2 Y-O-U.

Prince was just recording at a fast pace then, he had the record done while on the Purple Rain tour and wanted it out quick, though im sure WB wanted to milk Purple Rain the album a little longer and maybe pull another single off of it. So im sure that Shes ALways was done after the record was complete and in those days, BSIDES were happening, now if you say the term BSIDE people think your talking about Beyonces Ass or something like that.

that was laugh out loud funny. the org can still do that at times. yay!

Hair is definitely a fave and since i thought ATWIAD was already all over the place, i found myself disagreeing with the notion that it didn't FIT, but the idea that it wasn't GENERAL enough makes better sense than "sonic cohesion", but it still may not be the reason. (Raspberry was pretty specific wouldn't u say)
