The first "bad" Prince song?

I'd say it was "Temptation." Still a clunker 20+ years later.

The boom box sessions from 1978. Were apparently recorded with hungry cats.

I don't much care for temptation. It totally didn't fit in with Around the World in A Day at all. It was like Prince wrote a soft, whispy, hippie album, and ended it with eek eek eek rolleyes

But his first album was filled with forgettable songs, all in some weird disco style.

I kinda agree with you. There are only about 4 or 5 I even like on there. And even those aren't among my favorites.

I don't like to call them bad songs, but just songs I don't like.

I mean, Mozart to me is an absolute genius, but I don't like some of his stuff--that certainly doesn't mean it's bad.

My opinion ultimate is no bar upon which a musician by the likes of Prince should ever have to be concerned with. lol

As others have said , theres a few songs on his 1st album which really arent good and I'd have trouble singing them if someone put me on the spot , theyve not stuck in my memory . Hookwise , his 2nd album was a 500% improvement on for you .

Totally disagree on Prince and For You. all those songs have a charm about them.

Just as long as were together is awesome, Crazy you is supersweet. Soft and wet was his first "hit". I'm yours is a preview of his guitar playing. Those albums are super impressive in the context of the times and his age.

I'd say the first "bad" Prince song was anything off of the "Brother Arab" CD in 1989! Wait, you meant our Prince, not the Arabian Prince? My bad...

This is blashemphy! You should be vanished from the site! biggrin

Although I like Ronnie Talk To Russia, I do think that was his first TRULY bad song. I think that secretly we all have a place in our heart for certain Lackluster songs.

And if anybody clowns Betcha By Golly Wow again--I'm going to scream!

For You, his debut album, is full of unremarkable melodies and songs without any personal characture.

I think you should start there, OP.
