Atlanta radio is really blowing this song up. 102.5, V103, and Kiss 104 are ALL playing it on a regular.

such a shame the same can't be said about the designated, official lead single, "guitar".

Well I don't know about other cities, but in Atlanta he picked the wrong station to push guitar. V103 is an r&b / hip hop station. The son was played for a couple of days and died quickly. FBM on the other hand has flourished on that station.

In this day and age music must be segregated!

I have no fucking idea why, but it's simply the way things work.

The blame for this shouldn't be laid at Prince's feet. Getting the singles to the right stations and then actually getting them on said stations' playlists is Columbia's job. That's supposed to be the expertise they bring to the table in this business relationship. Prince's staff can drop-ship CDs to radio stations, hoping that someone bites, by themselves; it doesn't require a professional partner for that. Columbia is supposed to ensure that the music actually gets in the right hands and gets played.

Of course none of this matters because Prince doesn't care about airplay nor is it important, right? Oh wait, that's only when a single faulters.
No hard feelings.

... and that is the central cause for Prince's drop in sales/airplay since the early 1990's. Prince is now placed in the Urban/Black music category when he has a equally strong Pop/White fan base. Columbia should have know better thn to market a song called Guitar to Urban/R&B radio. That is stupid as Hell, but the major labels have been doing that since Gold. Why do acts like U2 still have strong airplay on the radio ? Because they are not crossing over into another musical category and American radio can slap a "rock" label on them and market them to major radio stations that play Rock/Pop. Prince is not played on any other format other than Urban and 90% of his music is Rock/Pop.

Factor in the fewer payola dollars that go out to Urban markets and the segregation of American music you now have a reason for the lack of the "hit song" that so many of you crave.

In closing if Prince was White we would not be having conversations about this song or that song being a hit, because it would be played on your city's major stations.

bingo we have a winner!!! I mean I have finally heard Planet Earth and I'm thinking to myself whos going to play it...let alone buy it? Other than us. Other than Future Baby Mama there is not a song on the record that black folks in mass will dig. While there are several cuts that would fit nicely on pop/rock radio. But if those stations don't have any interest in picking up the killer song Fury (especially that live version from SNL)...why in the heck would they play anything on PE?

Ps emense talent has been working against him establishing a broader fan base and being heard by millions of more folks

While I'm not ready to give me thoughts on Planet Earth yet...I do know that it will be no more a hit album that any of his output since the 90s. Whos going to play it? The base that charts him only has FBM. I gurantee you people that buy the record because of that single will be very disapointed by what else they hear.

I am convinced that in Prince's genius as a live performer and musician he will never have another monster album because he always seems bent of proving how many different styles of music he can do ...rather than cohesivness, consistancy, and yes quality.

It is absolutely shocking that Prince would put a song like Mr Goodnight on Planet Earth. He is too good for that. The rap on that song is so bad...it is written so poorly. The delivery is just awful. The lyrics are attrocious. Why does everything have to rhyme? Did P play his vocal back? Its almost as if he has no rythm. It sounds like something that someone who is completely incapable of rapping would do. If you stuck a mic in front of Al Gore he could not rap any worst than P does on this song. It is really shocking eek

Funny thing is that I didn't see were the song "officially" went for adds on any radio format. Maybe I missed it when I checked the R&R website. If this is the case, then any airplay at this point is good.
