I disagree completely! This is an all-time favorite of mine! The drumming and the "fresh" sound of it make it sound not a bit dated! It beams with ecstasy. quote] you like eye know?!!! and !!! Yup- top 30 Prince songs for me. Chrissy, I bet EVERYONE likes "Eye No" except you! As much as I adore TRC, Lovesexy is more dear to my heart. It was my first P concert, the thought of the album makes me happy, he's naked on the cover... prolly shit

The lyrical sentiment of Lovesexy married with the musical genius of The Rainbow Children - that's probably the most consumable product but that ain't where Prince is at spiritually. The Rainbow Children delivers a specific message with very little room for interpretation. That's unlike the open minded Prince before which is why he knew his listeners would find it controversial. Nevertheless, Prince has historically grown tired of his own ideas, whether they be women, musical tastes, name changes or spirituality. He'll change again, and there will be another debate. For the time being, he's seeking solitude within the JW doctrine and this is dictating everthing within his life.
P.S. My vote goes for The Rainbow Children despite my favourite albums being 1999, Lovesexy and Sign O the Times. I'm enjoying the fact that this new album made me say, 'what the fuck?!' The others don't anymore... [This message was edited Fri Sep 27 1:13:16 PDT 2002 by Anji]

Firstly, I suggest Pimpytheclown should run along bact to vanillaice.com or wherever it is they normally post. When 2 R in Love deserves just one word in that nice appraisal - crap. This being the only song which appears on both Black and Lovesexy, and he finds Black the better album!! Eye No is the best opening track I've heard, sets the tone wonderfully for one of the finest albums ever recorded. Where is this filler??? Answers on a postcard
Love is God, God is Love, Girls and Boys Love God Above - Where else has a spiritual message been put so perfectly? With Lovesexy Prince was at the zenith of his creativity, a time when he could release a so obviously spiritual record and yet remain popular. Prince at his best. TRC is a great album, but has more in common with the Black Album than Lovesexy. Its more Prince saying, if you don't like it - I don't care. Lovesexy took the joy of God as its focus whilst Black and TRC focus more on the darker aspects. IMO -----------------------------------------

The Bob George style narration, the funked out ending of Digital Garden and the opening of 1+1+1 is 3. But amazingly there are also beautiful moments of belief, the opening verse of Everywhere for example. The opinions start being driven home in The Rainbow Children, Muse 2 the Pharoah, Family Name, Everlasting Now and Last December. The record is still littered with unanswered questions though.

Are you kidding? These two albums don't even compare.
I couldn't believe how much I liked Lovesexy the first time I heard it. TRC is the worst work that Prince ever released in his whole life.I hate the "voice' why did he put this in every song? Why would he be stupid enough to show his prejudice, towards any group of people? I never thought it mattered to Prince what any of his fans were, black, white, red, Jewish, I don't think this any more and I wish I didn't know this about him.

I'll probably get shot down for saying this...
But Lovesexy is not as good or as meaningful as people give it credit for. Okay, Anna Stesia is perhaps one of the finest Prince songs ever written, but without that track, the album would be an awful follow up to Sign. Glam Slam is run-of-the-mill soft rock, Positivity - although the sentiments behind it are well written, the music itself is fairly sub-standard. And Eye No, don't even get me started on that one. Sign O The Times is far better in terms of production, musicianship and sincerity. Taking away Anna Stesia, which tracks on Lovesexy are as honest or heartfelt as The Cross or Adore? Which tracks are as funky as Sign or Housequake? Which tracks beat the musicianship displayed on ICNTTPOYM or IGBABN? As a follow up to Sign, the album sucked. As for The Rainbow Children, it is a grower. I think on tracks like Mellow and Muse 2 The Pharao he's trying to compete with D'angelo's sound, and it just doesn't work. When he's honest and writes from the heart, he can produce true magic. The elation you feel on Everywhere and the sincerity you can feel with The Last December is real, un-censored emotions. And The Sensual Everafter deserves an honoury mention as well. The flow of the album is ruined by the stupid 'voice' and D'angelo wannabe tracks. Although in my opinion, neither of the albums are amongst his finest, TRC is the better of the two.

Lovesexy was made in 88 making it 14 years old.TRC is barely a year old.try asking this question when TRC is 14.the question won't even get asked.I'm pretty sure that TRC will quickly collect dust, when he releases new product.

nobody has a dusty Lovesexy. This is a point I was going to make. Its difficult to test the longevity of a year old record. Of the older stuff though, Lovesexy has the greatest amount of time in my CD player as I think its his best. Only time will tell if TRC will hold as much weight in years to come. Whatever happens though, it will played more often than Rave... -----------------------------------------

LOVESEXY is the one.
TRC is too negative, the message is one of exclusion (banished ones?!) lovesexy was written when prince still embraced everyone without distinction on basis of color or creed

Okay well...LOVESEXY has only one jam on it 4 me and thats "ALPHABET STREET"...as 4 THE RAINBOW CHILDREN...this album I can play straight thru (skipping over she loves me for me) and listen to it over and over again.

I agree with Tron on this one. Lovesexy was kinda like the pure spirituality when you feel that you don't have all the answers - you just know that God is Love or that there is 'something out there'.
Rainbow Children is nore like "i think i know what it's all about and this is how it is_" 1+1+1=3 Plus one of Prince's most beautiful songs I Wish U Heaven... Saynomore! *Peace* Om TRON said: Lovesexy is my favorite album. I think the sound, message, lyrics and image are all better than TRC. I do love TRC and I remember how excited I was when I first heard it at the celebration year 2. But I like the open-minded attitude on Lovesexy. It feels like he's been to the top of the mountain, been given a gift and has come back to share it with us. Whereas sometimes I get the feeling with the Rainbow Children that he's telling us "I'm right, you're wrong". I know he's said that with Lovesexy he was half-assed and on this one he laid it all on the line. But it doesn't feel that way to me. Lovesexy sounds how I want to feel. TRC makes me think about god. There's a big difference between thinking and feeling.
In terms of live performance I'd say the shows are about equal. But if you watch Prince's face during these shows you can see the difference. On the Lovesexy tour he looks truly enlightened and joyful. In love with life. On the One Nite Alone shows there is an air of seriousness and even anger in some of the performances. I think this is reflected in the music as well. Don't get me wrong, I think his playing is better than ever- especially the celebration. But for raw spirituality, Lovesexy is the one. Just ask yourself, would you rather go to church or would you rather go to heaven? These albums show you what it's like.
