Lovesexy MORE because I was only about 13 or 14 at the time and on a young impressionable mind it made my subconscienous think about issues that I didn't really think about til my later years. It's probably the first time I heard anything remotely spiritual and I want' inot the church thing at all!!

Lovesexy is my favorite album. I think the sound, message, lyrics and image are all better than TRC. I do love TRC and I remember how excited I was when I first heard it at the celebration year 2. But I like the open-minded attitude on Lovesexy. It feels like he's been to the top of the mountain, been given a gift and has come back to share it with us. Whereas sometimes I get the feeling with the Rainbow Children that he's telling us "I'm right, you're wrong". I know he's said that with Lovesexy he was half-assed and on this one he laid it all on the line. But it doesn't feel that way to me. Lovesexy sounds how I want to feel. TRC makes me think about god. There's a big difference between thinking and feeling.
In terms of live performance I'd say the shows are about equal. But if you watch Prince's face during these shows you can see the difference. On the Lovesexy tour he looks truly enlightened and joyful. In love with life. On the One Nite Alone shows there is an air of seriousness and even anger in some of the performances. I think this is reflected in the music as well. Don't get me wrong, I think his playing is better than ever- especially the celebration. But for raw spirituality, Lovesexy is the one. Just ask yourself, would you rather go to church or would you rather go to heaven? These albums show you what it's like.

TRC. I think the live music sound to TRC is MUCH better than Lovesexy.

That is a PERFECT comparison. Wonderfully put!

On this site you'll get more votes for Lovesexy. But personally I love TRC way more than I ever did Lovesexy. For me the comparison isn't close. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

Rainbow Children has some roots of pride and bitterness, otherwise, it's one of his best albums ever! But for reasons stated, Lovesexy is the one.

Lovesexy easily.while I found it a Bit Hit&Miss Overall IMHO "Anna Stesia" Alone spanks Rainbow Children.the feeling&vibe off that One Jam Alone Wipes the Floor on the Rainbow Children IMHO. mistermaxxx

I still cannot understand the adoration for Lovesexy; people's comments are all flowery for Lovesexy, while they actually look at TRC for what it it. LETS look at "Lovesexy" for what IT is:
1) Quickly recorded to replace the funkier Black Album. Which album in retrospect REALLY would have helped his career MORE? I say "The Black Album", in spite of being angry and lyrically tame by today's standards! 2) "Eye (?!?) No": is this a GOOD track or NOT? If anything, this redoing of "The Ball" is good lyrically, but I argue that it is not good musically. 3) "Alphabet St.": isn't the "single Edit" better, ending with the screeching tires? That second part with Cat's "screeching rap" and the rest degenerates into noise; 4) "Glam Slam" is pretty pedestrian, and who likes that last organ bit? Good video though. 5) "Dance On" the title promises more than this jerky song. What DO those lyrics speak to you HONESTLY? 6) "When 2r in Love": crap 7) "I Wish U Heaven": Where "Alphabet St." should have been cut off, "Heaven" should have included all the extended version, parts 2 and 3 from the maxi-single! "My little friend, The Blue Angel!/ the psudo-Housequake bit, etc. What a way to end "Lovesexy" that could have been! 8) "Positivity" is dull for Prince.Except for the "choir" bit."A Place in Heaven" and/or "Heaven": why not add these INSTEAD? ___ "Lovesexy" loses a lot of steam on side 2 ___ Where are the "inspirational" lyrics on "Alphabet St."? What is so damn spiritually inspiring about "Dance On", "When 2 r in Love", "Glam Slam"? ___ "Lovesexy" taught Prince that he could successfully release an album and NOT give 100%; put in filler. EVERY album after "Lovesexy" had filler! From 1999 to "Sign o' the Times" did not! ___ TRC is Prince's best album musically, instrumentally, lyrically,; best studio trickery and most thoughtful. "Lovesexy" is wishy-washy and neive. TRC IS NOT CONDEMNING of others; you critics read too much into things based in the "Christ-mess" e-mails, and "knowledge" you get from Prince.Org! Prince knows TRC is his BEST work: see "One Night Alone Live" as proof, with emphasis on TRC.That says which he is MORE proud of! "Lovesexy" tracks, except "AnnaSteisa" DID NOT WORK LIVE! Listen to the boots. "Eye No" and "Glam Slam" are brutal. That tells you something about those tracks. They are also "cartoony" ___ HOWEVER, having said all that,I'll take "Lovesexy" over a "Rave un2 the Joyless Fantastic" ANY day!

1) Quickly recorded to replace the funkier Black Album. Which album in retrospect REALLY would have helped his career MORE? I say "The Black Album", in spite of being angry and lyrically tame by today's standards! This is a bad argument. All of Prince's music is recorded quickly- he was recording songs at a daily pace! "The Black Album" may have fared better commercially, but "Lovesexy" is a better message and a better album, in my opinion. It is Prince at his most bold. That's respectable! 2) "Eye (?!?) No": is this a GOOD track or NOT? If anything, this redoing of "The Ball" is good lyrically, but I argue that it is not good musically.
I disagree completely! This is an all-time favorite of mine! The drumming and the "fresh" sound of it make it sound not a bit dated! It beams with ecstasy. 3) "Alphabet St.": isn't the "single Edit" better, ending with the screeching tires? That second part with Cat's "screeching rap" and the rest degenerates into noise;
If you call that noise, so be it. I adore it, and the rap. 4) "Glam Slam" is pretty pedestrian, and who likes that last organ bit? Good video though.
The last organ bit is my favorite part! The ending is so joyous- it reminds me of the feeling of heaven. 5) "Dance On" the title promises more than this jerky song. What DO those lyrics speak to you HONESTLY?
I'm not the biggest fan of "Dance On," but I DO like the message. Prince is speaking from the heart and he knows what it is like to perservere in the wake of hard times. 6) "When 2r in Love": crap
If this is crap, then I will eat it daily. I really believe he DOES capture the feeling of love, when everything else is irrelevant. It is beautiful and trippy and it speaks of a love I hope to achieve someday. 7) "I Wish U Heaven": Where "Alphabet St." should have been cut off, "Heaven" should have included all the extended version, parts 2 and 3 from the maxi-single! "My little friend, The Blue Angel!/ the psudo-Housequake bit, etc. What a way to end "Lovesexy" that could have been!
This is a cool idea. The extended version of "I Wish U Heaven" is TOP NOTCH. 8) "Positivity" is dull for Prince.Except for the "choir" bit."A Place in Heaven" and/or "Heaven": why not add these INSTEAD?
"Positivity" is one of his edgiest songs ever! The sounds he is able to create are spine-tingling and conjure a feeling of evil perfectly. Ending it with cleansing is just what this album needs. ___
"Lovesexy" taught Prince that he could successfully release an album and NOT give 100%; put in filler. EVERY album after "Lovesexy" had filler! From 1999 to "Sign o' the Times" did not! Not a single second of "Lovesexy" is filler. It is all necessary. Why do you think the CD version has only one track? Every song needs its predecessor. This album has perfect flow.

Ya think? "Lovesexy" is wishy-washy and neive. TRC IS NOT CONDEMNING of others; you critics read too much into things based in the "Christ-mess" e-mails, and "knowledge" you get from Prince.Org!
Tell us more! You might think my comments are sarcastic...they're not. PS, I don't necessarily know if The Black Album would have helped his career more...sort of hard for me to form an opinion on that. This post not for the wimp contingent. All whiny wusses avert your eyes.

It's understandable for many to feel that Lovesexy is the better album of the two.Lovesexy is non-offensive and relatively vague in it's meaning of love and spirituality. People see it as a sort of peace and love statement, one that doesn't step on toes or seem to force religious beliefs on anyone.
I've always appreciated Lovesexy but i've never felt it was one of his best musical statements.I too agree with Pimpy in that the album feels thrown together and inconsistent. Having said that,The Rainbow Children IMO is one of the finest and most musically rewarding albums he's ever produced.I might not agree with or even fully understand many of the messages on TRC but the music captures so much for me I just don't care. Besides,I've never looked to Prince for spiritual guidance or direction in my life. That I left up to my mom.

Pimpy... I was there, surrounded by darkness, with sound effects swirling round about, and then the Lovesexy songs began, the lights came on, and we danced and shouted out of sheer ecstasy! It was a totally wild experience. It was INcredible! I have yet be a part of anything else like it!! I think he purposely made the evening an high-adrenaline rush, and it was! Looove Sexy! (Looove Sexy!) ...ah yeah.

LoveSexy, without a doubt.
I do REALLY like TRC, I just think it's more inconsistent and lyrics like those in 1+1+1is3 make me cringe and want to turn the cd off (if only the MUSIC in that song wasn't so damn good!) Also, the other thing I don't like in TRC is the Everlasting Now, it's cute, poppy, catchy and ABSOLUTELY disposable IMO, it's the kind of music P can kick out without breakin a sweat. While I think TRC as a whole is very bold and his strongest work in a decade, I think this track is quite poor, comparitively. One question for Pimpy...if you think LoveSexy had filler, what about all the segues and whatnot in TRC like deconstruction and those? And, as always, I love these threads cos I think it's awesome how far apart people's opinions are on P's music..I love every minute of it.
