So, Prince and a right wing newspaper... ... I've been away from a computer for a week or so, so please forgive me... BUT, are we reconciled with Prince using a right wing meida outlet to distribute his album in the UK? It's odd because the man who write Dear Mr Man also wrote Free - a Republican anthem if there ever was one... and, curiously, one written at a time when Prince would have been considered too.... gauche?... for right wing circles.
All this, 'Prince doesn't know about the Mails'' politics is shit. He should. He's now tarred with their brush. A blue-rinced, right wing politico who makes me feel a little full of vomit every time I think of the whole kit-caboodle.

Please forgive the spelling... 'media' and 'wrote'... even 'rinced' doesn't look right. Anyway: Prince and the Mail is a bad thing and Prince should be ashamed.

look dude, Prince couldn't give 2 fucks in a hand basket about the paper and what it stands for, thats not the purpose, he using them to get the CD out, using that paper doesn't mean he agrees with what their opinion is, its called marketing, don't get your balls all sore over it. its just business.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Nope. It's called standing by what you believe, and there are plenty of 'left leaning' or 'centrist' papers he could have approached. 'The Mail on Sunday' is an awful diatribe. 'Balls sore'? Yes, they are. This is not the action of the man I thought I supported. You know The Mails' politics, I presume?

didnt u know? P is more right wing then left...
he is very conservative in his beliefs when it comes to social issues...which lines up w/right wingers. Stand Up! Everybody, this is your life!

He has an extremely strong patriotic element that exudes right-wing sentiment.. The disquiet I feel about this current association is that the Mail is the ONLY paperin the UK who still thinks we are about to find weapons of mass destruction. It is the ONLY paper that believes Bush's activity in the middle-east is acceptable and, worst of all, propogates a continuing sense of fear, suspicion and loathing in the UK. Prince should be ASHAMED. Simple as.

I love it when people try to ram their politics down other peoples' throats. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

I feel uncomfortable about the Mail on Sunday. I don't think Prince really knows how bad it is. The Observer would have been more fitting. At least that paper seems to care about credible music and does a regular music magazine. It has a lower circulation, but all those interested in Prince would have pre-ordered it, and we'd have a lot fewer copies of the album going into landfill.

Ram 'their' politics? No, sadly not... not in this instance. The Mail is right wing. Prince is using it in a promotional fashion - Prince is right wing. How else do we spell it out?

There's been talk of this for weeks. Why do you only bring this up now?...after the fact? Why did none of the other org Brits not mention this? Probably because they know he's an American, so they don't assume the papers slant is his own, or they simply overlook it. It is his peoples job to do this, still, he may not have even considered the paper's view. Why do you like playing around with my narrow scope of reality? - Stupify

1. read the first comment.
2. he should hire better people.... unless Prince is a Repubican.

It is a nasty little paper that stands for very little progressive good, I wasn't actually aware it was so popular. 2million copies every Sunday is no joke. That will be all Prince saw. Beyond politics money is Prince's real god. Glug, glug like a mug
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Whilst I may not know what a 'repubican' is, I know that the Mail is a thuggish pamphlet that Prince should never associate himself with. It's a disgrace and, I'm sorry to say, Prince is a disgrace with it.

Is it that most have overlooked this because they know he's probably not familiar? or is it that they didn't care because they are only interested in the CD? Pardon me -- perhaps I didn't express myself clearly enough. You think Prince should not circulate his CD with a newspaper whose editorial policy you do not agree with. As such, you are imposing your political views on him. What gives you the right to do that? Beyond that, you characterize The Mail according to your views -- as if "right wing" has a set definition, decided by you. What makes you think only lefties like Prince? I've followed his career for over 25 years -- and I am quite sure you'd consider me "right wing." We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

Yes, I am. Or rather, I'm hoping he would agree with my political viewpoint... I know nothing about you Genesia, so I cannot afford you the description left or right wing. I would argue, however, that I'm not characterising the Mail at all; it would be appalled at being thought anything other than right-wing. The definition is not set by me, merely by history and, ergo, the Mail is a right wing paper.. simple as. So right wing, in fact, as to make me choke on my own arm-band and wish that my hair, like Hitler's, wasn't swept back on one side... there... how histrionic was that for you?
Prince's opportunism has not allowed for ... opinion. And there you have it.

What the fuck does it matter if Prince is right winged, left winged or wingless? What the fuck does that have to do with his music? Personally, I don't give a flying fuck about his political views, just give me his music.

I also feel uncomfortable about the paper of choice, for what would otherwise have been a great way to get your music out there again...
I've seen the headline for Sunday’s edition already... POP PERV PRINCE SEEKS 21 NIGHT ASYLUM IN TAX PAYERS DOME Join 'The Mail' on their crusade to drive them out. Also Inside, Diana, The REAL Story (Again) 38 page special. AND... To coincide with the release of Prince's new album, play The Mail's new prize draw game... PLANET EARTH. "Where on PLANET EARTH should we send the immigrants packing?" Answers on a postcard... Best answers win... Scary thing is... This is very accurate! I can't stand that paper and everything it believes in is horrible. If you do buy it this Sunday... Please make sure you salvage the CD and then recycle the paper without reading it right away. Peace, Chris. P.S… Let us have some fun! Anybody else think of a great headline…? Remember… Satire all the way!!!!

Why do most left wingers always have this holier than thou attitude ; feel the need to express that right wingers are lesser human beings ? [Edited 7/9/07 9:14am]

Well said. The paper is a hateful rag and it is a shame that Prince has chosen to associate with it. However anyone who wants the Prince album can just bin the paper and keep the CD, before even leaving the shop. BTW are any UK orgers picking up spare copies this Sunday for non-UK orgers? Or is it not worth bothering with as the album is out in shops soon anyway? I was wondering if it was worth grabbing a few extra copies for Orgers.

Like it or loathe it, The Mail still prints more real news on one day that the Sun, Mirror, Star and Express put together.
Maybe price should have gone with the Guardian. He could have given it way with a free pair of sandals and a fake disabled parking badge. .
