This song is moronic. "The main problem with war is nobody ever wins." Really, Prince? So...nobody won in the war that freed your ancestors? Or liberated thousands more from Hitler's death camps?

Thank you so much for giving us the next installment in The Kindergartner's View of World Events. rolleyes

Which war was that again?
And if dare say the "CIVIL," go back and sue everyone who's ever taught u anything about the civil war. "Freeing" of slaves in the South BECAME a goal and gave a higher moral cause to the war. Please don't think that was the reason the civil war began.

He actually said to "turn and face the strange"!

Back on topic, I believe that a lot of Prince fans are spoiled and expect him to do whatever it is they want him to do. Like they know about artistic freedom! Or even intelligent pop star career moves.

If you don't like the damn album, stop listening to it and put on a record you DO like. Download a program like Soundforge or something and tool around with it - remaster it, remix it, do whatever to make it new. As far as the stuff Prince is CURRENTLY putting out - It's awesome. I love it. I think it's his best stuff in 11 years, personally. Yes, that's right! Planet Earth is better than anything put out since Emancipation. Give me 6 months and I'll tell you if I like it more than that, even.

As someone else said, Prince does about 349581343 styles of music. Not every song will please every person. (For instance, I think "Lion of Judah" is the most retarded song in a long time - probably since "Wedding Feast"!)

HMM... ONE SAYS IT'S A GREAT SONG, ONE SAYS IT'S EMBARRASSING, ALTHOUGH THEY SPELLED IT INCORRECTLY, HMM... WHAT'S ONE TO THINK?

I KNOW... I'LL ADD THE "EMBARASSING" STATEMENT TO A PILE OF BULLSHIT FROM THE ORG.

cool

Oh, nice to know the org is a place for free speech and having your own opinions. rolleyes

Was there any need to shout that?

Maybe more people have heard it this time. I really loved the song.. I didnt expect the thread to go this long though... I guess the song is quite deep.

Ummmm...did you read the replies? lol

The fact that there are a number of them doesn't mean the song is deep. In this case, it means there's a difference of opinion as to whether it's a good song or not.
We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

When Prince says "nobody ever wins," he's talking about outcomes. And the plain fact of the matter is, the end of slavery was an outcome of the "Civil War" (if you live in the North) and the "War of Northern Aggression (if you live in the South).

I never said it constituted the grounds on which the war was fought. I know it wasn't.

Please go back and sue everyone who had a hand in your being a lousy reader. rolleyes

GoldiLocks

interesting thread . . .
my only knowledge of this song is what is in this thread.

the main lyrics cited as "Moronic" beans

are perhaps a SIMPLE way of stating the UNIVERSAL TRUTH

that in WAR, there never R winners dove
because it is a WIN/LOSE proposition to start
with casualties of DEATH, regardless of OUTCOMES

the End doesn't Justify the Means
the lyric seems clean, to the point and has Depth for me.

... Peace-Loving in a time of Nuclear & Biological Terrors ...
perhaps this is placed last on the album entitled, Planet Earth
as a PLEA, implying "We could all Lose w/the stakes so high."

ultimately, RESOLUTION is needed to save our planet from ourselves.

some of the Deepest things i know R quite Simple
like my Cat smilin' at me on a really bad day

neko coffee

Planet Earth reminds me of the Dream Factory for the following reasons:
- Simplistic lyrics which is quite refreshing (vs. Ekshic records talk)
- Wendy & Lisa-esque arrangements
- Challenging music

Admit it...it's nice to hear W&L on backgrounds vs. Prince's multi-layered voices. This album could have come out after Parade in 1986.
