1. He isn't a nostalgic cartoon of his former self, unlike Elvis was and Michael Jackson is.

2. Although "The Rainbow Children" was heavy on the salvation , in many ways Prince's sound is more mad/insane/sick than ever. "The Rainbow Children" album makes "Emancipation" seem very regular and sane.

3. People complain about Prince not dancing enough on the One Nite Alone tour,but he is concentrating more on the music and the passion like he used to. Don't believe me? Watch the performance from 1983 at 1st Ave, in which he debuted the "Purple Rain" material. It is a passionate/thrilling performance and he moves around less than he does on the One Nite Alone tour.

4. He isn't a lame "pop" act that is all smoke and mirrors. He is one of the last few Rock N' Roll icons that are still funkin' it up.

Anybody that has held my attention and been my first choice since 1987 must be doing sumthing right!

5. He never leaves you waiting too long for a new release like many of his contemporaries- jacksons, shitney, sade, george michael, the boss, peter gabriel, etc. Not that these are his peers but artists who've had a similar level of success and hit their commercial peak near the same time.

This is exactly why I love TRC...I'm not down with his religion and all that but man is that one trippy ride...what other artist out there has the balls to put himself/herself on the line like that...everything out there is so fucking predictable...

SKYWALKER - I think you're so right about the 'cartoon' aspect. I'd never thought of it in that way. Styles may change but one thing you can ALWAYS say about Prince is that he has remained true to himself and always lived for the now. Period. That's why I love him so.

I wonder if this is why he went through the name-change thing in the early 90's? He has mentioned in interviews that he felt the 'Prince' (of old) was becoming a parody (all that gangsta & bling bling stuff).

Perhaps he felt he HAD to go through the whole O+> period to re-assess himself; to get back to being a true original.
I love him, whatever.

i like him cuz he still comes up with a good song now and then. i'm not into raibow children that much, but muse 2 the pharoah is a good song. i think the high album is really good. i love silicon, my medallion and u make my sun shine. he should have released that album instead.
