I've heard the entire album already. It's pretty good cool

There's some sort of cool vibe happening with this album. These tracks remind me of songs like "Power Fantastic" and "4 the tears in your eyes".

"Guitar" bugs me for this reason: the riff sounds like U2's "I Will Follow" and it doesn't seem to "fit" fun lyric of the song.

"Somewhere..." is quite exquisite.

The acoustic pop-sounding tunes toward the end sound pretty boring and forgettable. Gone are the days when Prince stretched himself. These sound like perfectly good Prince songs, but like 3121 and Musicology, it's like we've heard them all before ...just under different titles.

Thanx biggrin

As i already guessed, i don't think i'm gonna like it 2 much, as much as i can "not like" a Prince album anyway. But i now know that i like Prince when he does either jazz (Xpectation, C-Note, N.E.W.S.) or raw electrofunk (The Chocolate Invasion, The Slaughterhouse.)

I hope that "mainstream pop" era which started with "Musicology" is gonna end after "Planet Earth" confused

I'm listening to these snippets for the first time... Seems Prince is trying to fill each musical genre and it's appropriate audience for the past 30 years...very uneven playlist, imo half the album doesn't fit. Very odd. I can hear the Wendy and Lisa influence, it does sound hippish/folk flower stuff, never heard him do stuff like this, cool but what's up with the other genres? Seem a bit extreme in contrast. He's following the mold of 3121, which I thought was a cleverly diverse album that worked. Not sure about the concept or package here, especially no song titles on the album. Interesting to see if any extras online with album release.

Wow. They sound much more interesting than the 3121 album. Upon first listens to these, I like Somewhere Here On Earth, Future Baby Mama and Lion of Judah. Give me a while longer with the others....

I'm actually most impressed with Mr Goodnight. There's not enough variety for me , most of the stuff sound the same to me. I'm hoping it'll be different when I hear the cd all the way through.

Great song. I just love it - expecially the end.

anyway back to Planet Earth:
The beginning of "Somewehere here on Earth" gets better with every listen.

I don't know why there are people dissing this album. I've been a Prince fan

for 23 years now and have very anxiously awaited every release. I love this album!

The excitement is still there, even after all these years. Best album since

Gold. And I thought Gold came very close to being a masterpiece!

Some fans are stuck in the past and can't accept that Prince has changed. Why don't enjoy his new music and stop telling what prince shall do or not do.

It is more a pop cd than RnB and so many people on this board have wanted Prince to ditch funk and work with W&L I am a little surprised at the bad reaction from some of you.

Just goods to show you everybody can't be pleased.

i do like it.... but im feeling sad

because i was expecting someting with abit more 'edge'
something more 'raw'

damn my expectations always ruin sh*t for me

but i guess thats what happens if we hear a song like 'guitar' pre release of the album when the over-all feel of the album is completely different

the title 'planet earth' definately suits the feel of the music though

hanging on the tree,
But missed the orchid

there is a growing concensus that despite only having 10 tracks on there he has managed to Royally fuck up in his song selection [again!].Instead of 9 or 10 stellar trax [i.e. Purple Rain, ATWIAD Prince etc] he's opted for the usual mix of styles with limited success [how can a 10 track CD have fillers!!]
I really hope I'm wrong and that each track grows on me.

The sound clips sound great.

Mr. Goodnight sounds like it could be a Rainbow Children outtake.

Somewhere Here on Earth: I want to here the whole thing, Prince sounds real vulnerable on the vocal, Amazing.

Planet Earth sounded odd, I need to here the full version.

Alot of winners here, some stuff that sounds different, eclectic, in a good way.

The CD sounds definitely more like a "Sign O' the Times" than a "NewPoerSoul".

I like better than Musicology and 3121.

I'm hoping against hope that those were just very poorly chosen sound clip passages. I'm pretty disappointed overall. Too may slow ones and not nearly enough funk.

Guitar is pretty solid fare.

I tapped my foot to The 1 U Wanna C.

Chelsea Rogers sounds pretty promising- the best of the lot IMO.

So, any anticipatory eagerness I've had has pretty much been deflated but you know I'm gonna buy it anyway. Gotta have the full Prince collection.

This doesn't bode well. I hate to get racial, but this is a very white sounding album.

Oh you mean the sort of sound that he made his name on and let's be honest most people think he is best at?? it's not about about colour after all - the R&B stuff9 And all that false gangsta speak) from Emancipation on I think we should leave to the ever so tedious R Kelly/Usher/Beyonce - Prince is a great composer and does't need to soundlike a dying music genre anymore!
