I just watched Prince perform "Purple Rain" at the AMA's and I was absolutely blown away! I don't know who seen this from who didn't, but whomever didin't I advise that u do. There were alot of times I've heard Purple Rain and never cried, well errr... I didn't cry this time either but felt very emotional. Prince sung his sexxy tight purple ass off on that performance, and I'm not saying he didn't in other performances of "Purple Rain" but damn that shit was groovy! He sang so fine don't ya'll agree?

i didnt cry either but the Pueple Rain perfmance from the nude tour video was emotional

i have this performance on dvd, its really cool, i like how he kicks the MIC stand. and everybody gets on their feet and claps.

I saw this live when it aired. I didn't cry, but my mom did... and she didn't even know who he was!

Still my fave single-song Prince performance. You can tell he was feelin' it...

When that mic stand get kicks to the ground it added to the power of the whole performance.Electrifying,even the crowd felt it they erupted when he did that.

I also watched that show live. I still have the old vhs tape that i recorded it with. Did u check out Cyndi Lauper losing her shit in the front row when P knocks over the mic stand? Great performance. If my memory (and that same videotape) serves me correctly Prince only performed that one song that night. He performed "Baby Im a Star" at the Grammys a few weeks or so after that. also worthy of checking out to see P whack himself with the mic stand after he does some Micstand trickery. Shiela E. and Jerome perform with him and it moves into a crazy jam session with P screaming on the piano and pulling audience members (including and incredibly disinterested Boy George,and Grace Jones)onto the stage. he then is whisked off the stage by Big Chick Huntsberry and exits thru the audience while removing his shirt.pheew!

I saw this when it originally aired. The whole week before, I was telling kids at my school that there was NO WAYin hell that P was going to perform at an awards show. For some reason, I just couldn't see it. They kept advertising P as the headliner and the more I heard it, the less I belived it. I didn't even think P was going to show up. Man, am I glad that I was wrong. P DESTROYED it that night. I mean,....he KILLED. Turned it out is a gross understatement. He fucked it up. He tried to kick everybody's ass that night and did it. When he screamed, the true fans upstairs lost their fucking minds. His solo was short, but on target. And his solo was loud as hell. The way a solo HAS to be. U can also see Madonna silly looking ass siting in the crowd as well. Looking paralyzed. P was probably in the midst of sleeping with her at this stage. She had that "I can't fucking move" look on her face. Tina Turner also looked turned out. When P jumped off of that cake looking platform onto the bottom stage all by himself, he was showing everybody in there just how short he is. P looked little as a motherfucker. And that only added to his performance, especially during his solo. Grace Slick was TRULY moved as u can see here rocking back and forth. The standing ovation he received was sincere. I only wish his selfish ass would have went to the We Are The World recording later that night. That's where the backlash began.

I love this performance of Purple Rain, but am I the only one who wished he added a little something extra to the solo like he did on the nude tour
