Your first impressions after hearing a Prince album? Usually right? We often get criticized around here for giving our first impressions of an album as soon as we hear it, especially if our "likes" don't match up with what other people think.
So let me hear it... how often are we right with our first impressions? And do you still hold those same thoughts today as when you first heard it? I think you'll find that our first impressions are usually right. Now be as honest as possible: Me first, then you... For You 1st: Now: (grew a lot on me) Prince 1st: Now: Dirty Mind 1st: Now: Controversy 1st: Now: 1999 1st: Now: Purple Rain 1st: Now: Around The World In A Day 1st: Now: (not as much as i did) Parade 1st: Now: (have greater appreciation now) Madhouse 8 1st: Now: (totally unexpected at the time!) (some really nice songs here) In conclusion, i think this goes to show that in almost all cases I know what I like and don't like from first listen. If an album really excites me at first listen, it's most likely going to be a favorite for years to come. Planet Earth will not be a favorite in years to come, but not to say it's not a decent album with at least 4 very good songs. Peace.

For me, the first listen always leaves me, hmm, underwhelmed isn't the right word...rather puzzled and undecided. I'm NEVER totally excited on the first listen. And that includes everything he or anyone else ever did. Strange, but true.

Totally can't say.
My top 5 albums always change.

My favorite albums were the one I initially hated when they were released:
I'm talking Come, SOTT, Parade, ATWIAD So far I hate PE, so I'm taking it as a good sign. Albums I was ok with after first listen: Emancipation, Symbol, Batman, NPS, D&P I didn't play very much after the newness wore off.

My first impression usually sticks if I find something boring (Musicology, 3121) and usually changes if I find something odd or it doesn't fit in a box straight away (TRC, Planet Earth).
The more I hear PE, the more I like it - All The Midnights In The World for example I like now, on my first listen, I thought it was dreadful - dreadful, not dull.
