"Tick Tick Bang" & Jimi's "Little Miss Lover" I'm sure this is old news for most BUT I was listing to some Jimi yesterday b/c I'm extraordinarily behind in his album stuff. & "Little Miss Lover" comes on - I actually look across the room really feeling like I was hearing the beginning of "Tick Tick Bang" So of course I dig up the album so I can check the liner notes (b/c I rarely do unless there's something specific I wanna know about a song). & there... was... NOTHING I mean really, the only difference in the drums is the clap (or whatever it is) on the 4 in Prince's. I just find it bizarre. It's more than similar, pretty dead on. How to the Jimi-heads feel about this? Again, I know it's OLD - forgive me

Yeah Cal your pretty late on this. The drums are a complete rip.
And as a "Jimi-head" I don't care. It's not like Tick/Tick is considered a classic P song or anything. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'll play it first and tell you what it is later. -Miles Davis-

yeah it's straight lifted from the jimi song
is the reason there's nothing in the liner notes just because you didn't have to mention samples in them back before 1990?? herman recently pointed out to me that the beginning "space" noise on the Lovesexy album is NOT prince's own creation but in fact a sample from another artist. i'd have to ask him who it was but he played it for me and i was like " " wtf? and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I know I'm hella late but damn, was the internet even around when that shit came out?? Were y'all just burning up the forums w/ it as soon as forums came into being or something?

Look don't get salty with me because you're some 17 years late on this. And I have no idea what was going on in the cyber-world of P in 1990. I've only been here since 1994. That's fucked UP i'm not 100% sure but i've read it on here several times when sampled stuff in his pre-90's work is discussed. i'll get on to herman and ask him about that lovesexy sample. it's an artwork kind of soundscape that he sampled it from. my guess is it's probably something that ingrid chavez was into since he got her to speak over it as an introduction to the album plus that original soundscape is just so bizar i don't think prince would have heard it anywhere ever without being introduced to it by someone else and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Are you guys sure it's a sample? Yes I know the drum pattern is virtually the same but maybe Prince played the drums himself and then used that. Don't get me wrong, it's obviously the "Little Miss Lover" drum beat and I'm sure P. knew, I'm just wondering if it's literally sampling the Hendrix record or if P. is just copying it on his own. I guess it doesn't make much of a difference.
No one had internet in 1990 except for people in the government I'm guessing, but most definitely not the general public. And yeah the original version of "Tick Tick Bang" is WAAAAY cooler. I think mostly everything from "Grafitti Bridge" has a corny, dated sound to it but the original "Tick Tick Bang" sounds totally early 80's new wave. It sounds so RAW. The lyrics are the same but with the different vibe the song just sounds so much raunchier to me. In the later version it seems to me like it's easy to listen to the song and overlook what P. is talking about but in the earlier version it's impossible to overlook! I love the earlier version much more.

found it.
it's from a sound collage by Delia Derbyshire: http://en.wikipedia.org/w...Derbyshire here's a link to one of the original org threads where it's discussed (amongst other things lovesexy, lol) http://www.prince.org/msg...mp=20&pg=1 and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

I mean, how do they do that in court - if you don't use that persons recording but you recreate it yourself & it's identical... isn't credit still due?

Damn...where MY mind is truly blown is that u, Cal, even LISTENED to Hendrix. U never struck me as the type that would even fuck with Jimi's music. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

There was sampling going on for the beats or basslines of some songs in the early 90's for prince. Started giving credit on the symbol album. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

That's COLD! I confess - up to now I've only had a "greatest hits" I know, I'm an awful person I've wanted to dig into his stuff for years, just didn't have the $ to do so
