You're depressed? Why is that, I thought that was the funniest article I ever read! lol
The only one depressed in here seems to be the person who wrote that joke.

Seriously though...while reading such crap I'm surely happy that Prince is doing is own thing. If he had the current top ten hit, this author would be licking his ass from noon to midnight.

Roger Friedman:
"His last hit, "The Most Beautiful Girl," was almost a decade ago." and "I used to think he was a genius, but now..."

...and that in the same paragraph.
I seriously hope that Prince will never be included into the Rock N' Roll Hall of Whatever.

Hi,

I just had to reply to the editor of this article:

Hi,

So nice of you to write something about Prince (yeah, etc.)
But please, get your info right next time:
- look at the concert sales in Europe; I think with the proper promotion this live 3cd will be a hit!
- he's not being a nostalgia act, mixing fond hits of the past with incomprohensible new material. At least, not with his most recent tour. Just listen to the new live 2cd (lol)... it will be released!!
- his 1st record came out in 1978 (not 1977), so 1978+25=2003. He can is eligible for induction into the so-called Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2003 (and not this year). No wonder his name didn't come up!

But in the end it's better to write something half-true then to write nothing at all. Thanks for that.

Peace,

I know it doesn't help a thing, but I had fun writing it! lol

Peace,
TheKid

they wrote:Prince -- yeah, yeah, the Artist-formerly-known-as-the-same-person-he-always-was -- came to New York Tuesday night to launch a new album.

Unfortunately, he didn't bother to show until almost 1 a.m. at Jimmy's Uptown in Harlem, not the 11:30 p.m. mentioned in today's New York Post.

He kept everyone waiting, including media hounds from the New Yorker and Vanity Fair. He even made the kids from American Idol stay up past their bedtimes.

(said in my best Fam voice) Who are they to complain that he didn't show up till one? At least he showed up? They should all just be grateful that they had a chance to be in his pressence and hear his music? This writer must learn to appreciate Prince and quit complaining.

lol lol lol

awww, I hate to say it, but ol' boy deserved most of this!

everything but the "cd noone wants" part...that was a bit harsh, and clearly untrue...

I thought this part was nice, even though slightly inaccurate:

"Here's a better question: how is it that Elvis Costello and a number of other acts are eligible for induction into the so-called Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, but so far Prince's name has not come up? He released his first album the same year (1977) as Costello and has matched him release for release. Or has Suzan Evans Hochberg, who's paid $300,000 a year to figure out who's worthy each year, forgotten him?"

So it wasn't all bad. Don't be depressed Shausler. At least he's getting some attention.

I too replied to the author of this "story":

Hello,

In the story posted at:

http://www.foxnews.com/st...48,00.html

there are a number of inaccuracies that I would like to point out. The first:

"He released his first album the same year (1977) as Costello and has matched him release for release. Or has Suzan Evans Hochberg, who's paid $300,000 a year to figure out who's worthy each year, forgotten him?"

Prince's first album, "For You," was released in 1978. He will not be eligible for the R&R Hall of Fame until 2003. No one has forgotten him -- he simply isn't eligible yet.

Other inaccuracies are more a matter of opinion, but:

"Interestingly, Prince's party was for something no one wants or needs: a three-CD live set. But get this: The thing isn't out yet -- and may not even be finished."

There are quite a large number of people interested in this release (visit www.npgmusicclub.com or www.prince.org). Even if just *one* person is interested in the release, that would make your statement untrue. It sounds to me like there were slightly more than zero people at the listening party.

I assume there is information somewhere in research done for this story that leads you to believe that the three-CD live set "may not even be finished." Could you please share what that information is? If the release isn't finished, then Billboard and Rolling Stone need to be corrected in stories they've published about the release, including a track listing.

---

Will post any response I get...heh heh...nobody hold their breath.

If you compare this story with The New York Post story you have to wonder why throw a listening party for the press & don't show up until 3 or 4 hours after it started?
Is this standard behavior for a listening party?

While he was busy putting down Prince for not having a hit since '94, and praising Elvis Costello, he pretty much discounted the fact that Elvis Costello only had one or two hits, the last one being back in '89. I've said it before and I'll say it again, hits are not important when it comes to good music...

It's pretty obvious what this guy thinks about Prince. And its also an easy cop-out to not listen to the music and judge it based on Prince's behavior...

My reply:
___

Dear Mr. Friedman,

I'm not sure how long you've been covering music...but if it has been for any substantial length, you should be embarrassed at your ripping of Prince in your latest article.

If anything is certain with Prince, it's uncertainty. You shouldn't be surprised at all that nothing went as planned for his "album launch." How many stars out there today actually show up when they're supposed to? Very few I would guess.

And I'm sure the party was better off without Mick Jagger. You mention Prince as a nostalgia act with incomprehensible new material. Incomprehensible how? At least provide some evidence to support your argument. And if anyone is a nostalgia act, it would Mick and his Rolling Stones. At least Prince still releases original music on a regular basis…and he doesn't rip off k.d. lang in a desperate attempt for a hit…

You also mention that the party was for something that no one wants or needs…yet there are several Prince fans I know of who are anxiously awaiting this release. The first live album from one of (if not THE) greatest live performer of this musical generation…what true music fan WOULDN'T want it?

And to answer your "better" question…Prince's first album was released in 1978…not 1977. Therefore, he is not eligible until next year for induction into the Hall. Please do your homework next time before printing lies about an artist. Especially one as important as Prince. You should be thankful artists like Prince still exist in this sad era of music.

Sincerely,

Matthew McBride

why im depressed.

when i read this article,
something about the words "new album"

you know, that old feelin'

new songs

what will they be called

what magic awaits

how will my mind be altered

what will the album cover be like etc. etc.

then i get snapped back into the reality that its the lame 3 cd end of year 2 commitment to the club members (and probably most of the walmart buyin public in 2 months after.

my heart kind of sank

i know i sound bitter , believe me there really is no bigger fan of prince then me but

ima

I JUST WANT SOME NEW SONGS !

I'm with you. Not that I won't enjoy the live album, but I would really like something legitimately NEW from the club.
'Everybody wants to sell what's already been sold' I believe it's been said.
To tell the truth, I'm not really looking forward to the 'Xenophobia' album either. I think if most of you would be honest it was NOT your love of 'modern' jazz music that initially got you interested in Prince.
I am not ungrateful. I absolutely adore 'One Nite Alone.' But that should have only been the tip of the iceberg for this year. I predict we will get all sorts of freebies as the membership year nears the end though, simply because if they are going to keep the club afloat for another year, they will have a lot of 'kissing up' to do.
Don't misunderstand this, I love Prince. I think he's brilliant, and I know the membership year isn't over yet. I am just being honest about where I am right now.

mad This is what I sent to the editor. I couldnt help myself.

Your Prince article. It's insane!
I think you would be very shocked to see and know that Prince's tour "One Night Alone" in America was sold out in every arena and he is now going to Europe and those tickets are sold out!
He's going strong.
And why must he get dogged out for showing late at his own party when it's clear you stayed there to see him? If you didnt want to stay you should've left. Simple as that.
WHO NEEDS MICK JAGGER when it's Prince's listening party?
And if no one wants or needs Prince's 3 CD set, why is he putting it out? Because obviously there fans out there who WILL get this CD complialation and you can go to sites such as www.npgmusicclub.com or www.prince.org or just simply type Prince's name up in the search box and SEE how many Prince websites come up that support him in this endeavor.
There's more websites for him then for YOU I can guarantee.
And get your record facts straight..Prince's first album came out in 1978. "For You". Your supposed to be a journalist?
Nostalgia wouldnt correctly define a CELEBRITY THAT LETS HIS FANS COME TO SOUNDCHECKS>>>AFTERPARTIES>>>and on top of that gives WEEK LONG CONCERTS FOR HIS FANS of old jams and new jams that WE LOVE in his very own HOUSE: Paisley Park.
No celebrity of today would think about doing something like this.
With all due respect: Your an idiot and Prince is STILL A GENIUS because he's still making music that will do more for people than your words will.

Sincerly,
A faithful Prince "fam"

..

Actually his first real album came out in 1978, For You. I don't think Pepe Willie's '94 East' counts, which came out earlier. (you probably knew that. )

It may be that ONA...Live! is not "finished" yet.
Prince can still be tooling with the final mix before it gets pressed without changing the tracklisting.
We have no idea if its been pressed or not.
We haven't seen any cd cover.
No announcement of an alliance with any distributor.
Does not sound like anybody got copies of ONA...Live! at the listening party - they got a cdr & a t-shirt.
NPGMC never said the cd set was finished.

MY REPLY 2: MR.REPORTER @ FOXNEWS.COM

Regarding your PRINCE NewsBIT!
Hmmm...sounds as if there are some personal problems that come into play when writing an newsbit on Prince (THE MAN).
If you dislike Prince so much, why even as you said "Waste your new reporting time" to trout all the way uptown to Jimmy's to check out the HOOPLA!

I hate when no names, write non-sense about ARTISTS who give a rats ass about them. PRINCE doesn't even know who you are! and yet you were there to hear his new project (that no one wants) but instead over 200 ppl including celebrities and media {cough} yourself, were there for an album no one wants, why was that?

Prince's first album was in 1978 which makes him a candidate for the RNR Hall of fame NEXT YEAR!
Get your FACTS Correct! First before reporting on something your uneducated about!

Prince is still an influence in the Music Industry today...No Doubt to Papa Roach to EVE to Q-Tip to Justin Timberlake and Maxwell, all respect and continue to give him props...Ppl are still asking him for more and yes, he's been out of the INDUSTRY Loop for almost a DECADE...Occassionally coming back w/ Great Music for the Masses, but for those who don't agree w/ his stance against Constitional Slavery in The Music WORLD, they always seem to bring him down, but once again, these are MONEY hungry monkeys who can't play a damn instrument and doesn't write or produce quality music for themselves...these are the pencil pushers, who should be paying THE ARTISTS for all the Millions their making them!

I just hate to see you waste your time on someone who the guards as you stated, was watching nothing for no one!
Thats CRAZY and BIZARRE, That you should even go there and sit around asking questions if you hated him so much...
Your stupidity shows through like true colors of a rainbow, just as BRIGHT and slowly Tarnishing.

Prince has Concert Tour, which sold out completely for 150$ per ticket and he performed all new material, and recieved some of the BEST DAMN REVIEWS In a long time...He's currently selling out arena's and venues he's planning to play this fall all over europe...he's selling records directly to his millions of online fans.
He's still got the Celebrity appeal to have assholes like yourself showing up, writing these petty and childish reports...and tons of Celebs, old and new...American IDOL Kids... were talking the TRL Generation who don't know who he is, or do they, or why would they even stay up past their bedtime to see someone whose so washed up and irrelevant as you state that he is!?

You need to understand PRINCE isn't like you !
Prince is Prince, and for an ARTIST whose been in this business for 25yr.s now and still creating a buzz, whether his records sell 200,000 to 1Million copies...he's still worthy of your RESPECT!

He doesn't need radio, mtv or your reports to sell records or to keep his name going, because PRINCE will forever stand on his own. Symbol or not!
No Artist couldve ever taken a Sign/Glyph...and put so much power in it! a world wide phenomenom...Prince may not have had a top 5 hit or #1 smash since "94...But for an ARTIST whose so much the nostalgia act- according to you...How many artist can release an album w/ little to no promotion and still get a TOP 20 record?

An Artist who still has it and NO ONE HAS FORGOTTEN HIM!
Plus, Selling out his Yearly Annual Events at Paisley Park which holds a maximum of 2,000 ppl, for 250.00$ and from everywhere also...(Germany,Netherlands,Japan,Michigan,California and India) You tell me, how is his New Music so incomprehensible ?

I Don't think so... so do us all a favor, NEVER WRITE ANOTHER "PRINCE" REVIEW UNTIL YOU HAVE GONE OUT AND BOUGHT EVERY SINGLE RECORD FROM 1978 TO 2002 AND TELL ME THAT HE DOESN'T ROCK! AND NO ONE WANTS WHAT HE HAS TO OFFER ANYMORE.

There is and won't be an Artist thats still as CAPITIVATING and TALENTED as PRINCE, In This LifeTime!

So Elvis Costello and Suzan Evans and for that Matter Mick Jagger, can all go and Retire...by the way, what happened to Mick's Last Solo Deal!?

LEAVE "PRINCE" ALONE!
